Guest guest
, I have had trouble with coughing for 12 years. At one time, every time I opened my mouth to say anything, I would cough. Sometimes so hard I would gag. But always a dry cough, seldom if ever productive. It got so bad when I was still working that just the thought of talking would trigger it. For instance, I would be sitting at my desk and my phone would ring. Immediately I would have a coughing fit. My wife said that God was trying to tell me something. I still have coughing spells when I swallow and a drop of saliva goes " down the wrong way " , or a speck of black pepper (which I love) lands on a tonsil, or I laugh really hard. I seldom ever cough from drinking a liquid. When the problem was severe, I went to five different pulmonologists - had every swallowing test known - had breathing tests numerous times - had a uvulectomy - took Tylenol 3 - took pure codeine - tried everything five doctors could think of. Nothing helped. I still cough " some " when I first get up in the morning. Having said all that, I don't know whether my coughing is part of my PLS or the result of 40 years of smoking. It all started exactly two months after I was hospitalized for a week while receiving daily IV's of steroids. I also quit smoking the day I entered the hospital. Now for your question - finally. I honestly can't say that Zoloft has had any effect on my coughing, but it did stop my uncontrolled laughing and crying at very weird times and at unusual things. And it controlled my hateful personality that I was developing. I hope something in all that rambling helps. Guest guest
Something to think about with a nagging cough is reflux- this can be worse when taking anti spasmotics. All reflux does not result in a sour taste in your mouth or heartburn. Lavon
Guest guest
I have a cough problem, diagnosed as being related to my hiatal hernia, which can cause acid reflux, and not part of my PLS symptomology. The use of Maximum Strength Cough Robitussin and the same company's cough drops is very effective in supressing this cough. The use of Prilosec, 20 mg twice a day, once on arising and once on retiring, is also part of the solution; ask your physician about this last part of the therapy.
