Hello there,

I'm a clinical dietitian located in dubai, I started my first job 5 months ago

Sadly here our job is not recognized and respected as you in usa

Im trying my best to improve and be better but I dont know what resources I can

trust (latest info)

Right now they let me in the oncology ward and I have so many questions I

reaally wish I could find answers to give the best care to my patients ... I

ordered few books from amazon and waiting for them to arrive

- all patients on chemo should be on nutropenic diet right ? I read a new study

that said there are no evidence that they need any specail diet and Im confused

- If the WBC is high what should I focus on?

- should I restrict the protein for a patient who is on chemo and have kidney

cancer stage 4?

- most of the patients I see are craving fruit salad butI tell them they cant

have it until the wbc gets higher I feel bad.. Am I doing the right thing?

- Many of the patients I see are end stage (some on chemo and some not) when

they ask me what they can eat ... I dont know what the best advice to give them

- patients with low appetite I usually give them ensure pudding, peptamin,

forticare, prosure,,.etc what about you all, what do you give them?

- Patients who have breast cancer and is on hormanl therapy what should I advise

them?

Sorry for asking so much, and If i made any mistakes(english is not my first

language) i would really love it if someone could answer me so I can give my

patients the best care possible

>Neutropenic only for s/p bone marrow transplant when their ANC is low (think

low WBC = very little protection against a food borne illness).  Not used in

other cases.

>Only if the BUN & Cr are sky high and there is no dialysis planned.

>If WBC rising and fruit washed/peeled, let them have what they crave.

>Anything they want and are willing to eat (don't waste time with stuff they

won't eat), encourage family to bring favorite foods from outside hospital. If

nauseated suggest room temperature foods (avoid fried, strong smells).

>- Patients who have breast cancer and is on hormanl therapy what should I

>I'll let someone else suggest here.
