The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of non-essentials. " - Lin Yutang I so need to realize this. When I hear of all that everyone does with their massive levels of pain, I think it may help others too. Anyone with household quick tips? I use a Swiffer mop to do all my dusting now. I like the Pledge duster heads better though. I think of it as my magic wand. I put some mop and glo in a small pail of water for quick touch ups on the kitchen floor instead of scrubbing it several times in a week. I make swiss steak and several mixed veggies one night and the next day cut the meat up, add the veggies a can of corn and tomato juice for a quick veggie soup. Can also add left overs to clean the fridge and add variety to the soup. Come on friends, help me with your ideas. hugs, jan s NEW E-MAIL ADDY sweetprairie1@... Guest guest
I like that motto, Jan. Reminds me of " My home is clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy " . Some things just have to go to the back of the priority list. My idea comes in the form of a stool. When I stand for any length of time, I get horrible pain in my lower to middle back - so much so that it is difficult working in the kitchen at the stove and sink. So, I went to WalMart and bought a 24 " stool so that I could sit while doing dishes or cooking dinner. It takes the pressure off my back. Also - there are only three of us home now as the others have grown and gone - when I cook chicken in the crockpot, I will do two or three times what I need so that there are leftovers for casseroles or another dish. Saves electricity, time, my back and money. Doreen
Guest guest
I make chicken noodle soup out of canned broth, canned veggies, canned chicken, and fresh veggies. I put dumplings in by adding raw biscuits to boiling broth (it tastes great). I put bleach or Kaboom in the toilet to clean it once a week, then once a month I use a scrubbing bubbles toilet brush so I can just flush it. This way I don't have to scrub the toilet all the time. I clean the litter boxes everyday so it doesn't pile up (no pun intended ) I got a bissell pet hair vacuum and it has a detachable canister so you only have to use the one vacuum for everything. It also works great for pet hair (for those of you who have pets). I also bought a Foreman G5 grill. It has removable plates that are easy to clean, and I make dinner on it in about 5 minutes. Usually turkey or salmon burgers and grilled veggies (usually carrots and asparagus). It also makes waffles, bakes, and is a griddle. I make broccoli spinach or asparagus soup by boiling the veggies then putting them in the blender with a little water that's left after boiling. It's a great stock to add ham or shrimp in. Those are all I can think of right now. I will enjoy hearing from others as well ~Autumn M. (in Indiana)
Guest guest
I love that quote! I've decided a big part of my problem lies with clutter. If I can simplify my life, get rid of " things " , then it should be easier. That's my project for the month of June - to start with one area, and get it " simplified " . As to hints, I've found a perfect solution. :) It's called a daughter who wants to live at home (we're only 3 miles from her new job, in SoCal that's nothing short of miraculous) and is willing to clean and do the shopping in lieu of paying rent. We all win - I have help, the cleaning gets done, and she has a great place to have her friends over and she's saving up enough money to go to grad school eventually. I have found one serious gadget to share. It's a Swifter duster, a floppy thing at the end of a plastic handle. The great thing is that the handle rotates! It is so easy to reach down - or up - and get those problem areas without twisting, bending, climbing, or worse. The floppy thing is disposable. We also found something like a Swifter floor duster, except it has a large head, more than twice the size of the swifter, and a microfiber cover. You spray the cover with something, then dust. The cover goes in the washer. Since we have all wood or time floors (allergies), it makes cleaning them a breeze. Keep those hints coming, folks! Every little bit helps.
