I was one of the unlucky ones who cant take it. I ended up in the emergency

room

swelled in my ankle three times the normal size. So there are more people

out their

that cant take it , but more that i know take it with no problems.

Neurontin is also used for

bipolar disorder as well.

It's not FDA approved for bipolar disorder and actually not very effective

for it. I know someone will probably say they think it is but studies have not

proven this. However, it has been shown to be excellent with pain control.

Nope its not FDA approved for it is used offlabel for lots of things

including complex regional pain syndrome. Its

the same as any med it works for some and not for others. I know many

people with bipolar who have taken it and

have not had any success. I am on Keppra which is an anti seizure med but

take it the same as others take neurontin for nerve

pain. Cymbalta isnt approved for crps either but is used for depression and

well as diabetic neuropathy. So theres many

off label uses to a lot of medications.

Of course many medications are used off label. What I was saying is that it

has been shown to be ineffective for bipolar disorder. That's the difference.

It's one thing to use a medication off label that works vs proven

ineffective. Anticonvulsants have been studied and shown to be helpful with

pain

disorders. Cymbalta is likely to be approved in the near future for RLS- (which

will

also mean crps and the likes) as it is already approved for depression and

diabetic neuropathy :) I take Topamax. Works great!

Hi,

I have taken this med for 2+ years, and think it is wonderful.? I take 400mg 4

times per day.? I actually wish I had stock in it!? At first I had to take it

slow.? Starting with 100mg 2 x per day and built up.? I did get sleepy and slow,

but was advised that things would get better, and that is true.? After a few

months months I was just like I always was.? My Dr. did send me to a neurologist

to make sure all was correct.? BUt it is a great med for pain.

Gentle hugs & prayers,

CAROL M. IN CA

Thank you everyone for your take on Gabapentin... I guess I'll try it

this coming weekend... I don't want to try it on a week day because I

don't know how it will effect me... Yes, I know its to be taken at

night, and I plan on attempting it Friday night and seeing how

Saturday and Sunday feels...

I'm still feeling a bit hesitant though.... I guess thats pretty silly..

Good luck on your new medication Bonnie! It's normal to feel nervous and

apprehensive any time we begin new treatments especially with any scary side

effects. If you begin to feel more down than usual, just let your doctor know,

that way you can tell if its the actual medication doing it. I was on Cymbalta

for a few years for my FMS at the highest dose they used to treat it. After

quite awhile, my down mood became very DOWN. I phoned my doctor and we weaned

myself off the medication and switched to Effexor XR although its not as

effective for FMS as Cymbalta is. I had time to note that my thoughts were

taking a downward spiral and I let my doctor know as soon as possible. Maybe

that side effect won't even happen at all:)
