I would take it. Suicidal ideation isn't high on the adverse reaction list

for gabapentin but is required to be listed. Your much more likely to

experience different side effects if any. Many are helped by it. I'd try it.

Thank you both for the quick replies.... Your posts were somewhat

comforting, but I must admit, I'm still reluctant...

Thanks again

My Rheumatologist recently put me on Gabapentin (Neurontin). I only

take it at night and it has helped me to sleep through the night and

not wake up in pain like before. The only side effect I have seen is a

slight bloating, but not bad. The plan is for me to get away from the

pain meds (that can be addictive) - he claims this should control my

pain better - we'll see.

My rheum put me on Gabapentin for pain and muscle relaxation last

year. It doesn't completely relax my muscles but tones them down.

Don't have any other muscle relaxant. Supposed to take Gabapentin twice

a day so wait till I am done driving before taking the first dose.

Gabapentin also helps me sleep better. So far no suicidal thoughts

though.

Thank you everyone for your take on Gabapentin... I guess I'll try it

this coming weekend... I don't want to try it on a week day because I

don't know how it will effect me... Yes, I know its to be taken at

night, and I plan on attempting it Friday night and seeing how

Saturday and Sunday feels...

I'm still feeling a bit hesitant though.... I guess thats pretty silly..

Yes i hear topomax does work as well. And yes it has been unaffective for

bipolar. They

also are going to push thorugh cymbalta being approved also for fibromyalgia

from what i hear.

Wish they would do more research on crps as its highest on the pain scale

about cancer even.

Of course many medications are used off label. What I was saying is that it

has been shown to be ineffective for bipolar disorder. That's the

difference.

It's one thing to use a medication off label that works vs proven

ineffective. Anticonvulsants have been studied and shown to be helpful with

pain

disorders. Cymbalta is likely to be approved in the near future for RLS-

(which will

also mean crps and the likes) as it is already approved for depression and

diabetic neuropathy :) I take Topamax. Works great!

Nope its not FDA approved for it is used offlabel for lots of things

including complex regional pain syndrome. Its

the same as any med it works for some and not for others. I know many

people with bipolar who have taken it and

have not had any success. I am on Keppra which is an anti seizure med but

take it the same as others take neurontin for nerve

pain. Cymbalta isnt approved for crps either but is used for depression

and

well as diabetic neuropathy. So theres many

off label uses to a lot of medications.
