Guest guest
Hi , Some random, unedited, thoughts. For security/safety sake, whenever somebody sets an appointment, maybe run a credit card for a nominal fee to hold the appt - and/or or get an email address, contact info to confirm an appt along with their other info. Make sure the email " goes thru " and ask for them to reply to confirm. This just allows you to track somebody and will make anybody considering harm/theft think otherwise. (That said, I used to have a home office and did home care and never felt unsafe) Re: City Licensure. If you just plan a part time practice, it may be better to not mention anything - cities worry about major traffic coming and going and are concerned with turning residential areas too " commercial. " Your practice won't have more than one car/visitor at a time - not more than some people have visitors or family coming and going. Anyway, just a thought, if you're comfortable with that. By contacting the city, you risk also them telling you " no " and raising flags. Most PP RDs I know charge a minimum of $80/hour up to $200/hour. You've got all your overhead and expenses to cover, besides your time. Do check out Kathy King Helm's and ADA's " Starting a private Practice " typebooks. they will help a lot. Finally, if interested, LEAP-MRT is a great niche for PP RDs. Plus, we help you with forms, working with docs, marketing, etc. And, people that are in pain and hurting and tired of not finding " answers " don't have much problem paying you $800 or more to get well. (Average LEAP RD charges about $795 for counseling and MRT testing, but some charge up to $1500 and I know one " non-RD nutritionist that used MRT testing that charged clients $3500 - she had professional athletes and wealthy clients!) And, a " work-up " with some well known integrative practices, with lots of testing, may cost $6000 to $10,000. So, don't underestimate your worth! (And, with LEAP study, you can earn up to 50 CPE as well.) Oh, LEAP works great to do follow-up appoints by telephone as well! Clients love that they can get interim consults via phone, from home, during their lunch hour, after work, etc. Some LEAP RDs just hold 9-5 type hours, even by phone. Personally, I liked that I could take a few hours off during the day to garden or hike, but then work after dark doing phone consults. Please remember your personal safety if you are considering using your home for an office. In my case I decided I didn't want to have people coming to my own home. Also, I have a PO box which I use for all of my business related correspondence. 4. Check with your city/town to see if they require a business license. Also, check to see what they allow you to do from a zoning standpoint. My city charges me $50 yearly for a license. When I checked into what I could do I found I could use my home for an office as long as I didn't have " customers " (their words) coming to my home (so I could not have done this even if I wanted to...).
