Hello-

I have been asked to do a 45 min in-service for a group of RN's on basic DM

education.  Simple info on basics of CHO counting and foods a diabetic should

and should not eat.  Before I start this presentation, I was wondering if anyone

had one already that I could use or pull some information from ?  Please feel

free to e-mail me privately.

Thank  You.

Diabetics can technically eat any kind of food that a non diabetic eats as long

as they are counting carbohydrates and sticking to their diet plan. However I

always recommend no regular soda unless treating a low blood sugar, and no

regular candy on a regular basis but once every few weeks is ok.

, I suggest that you google the American Diabetes Association website and

read the guidelines for diabetic care. Also If you have access to the

Nutritional Care Manual you avail yourself of that information which is quite

valuable. RD411 has a huge number of references and guidelines/instructions on

diabetic diets, diabetic care, etc.

I have found that I do my best presentations when I thoroughly research the

topic and am intimately familiar with it, and that way I can answer any

unexpected questions and feel confident about myself and what I’m saying.

Even when using something already prepared by someone else, it’s best to do

that first.

Best of luck in your investigations and as you prepare for your presentation.

I’m sure you’ll find the sites I mentioned of value.
