Guest guest
Hi again, , I also have sticking in my throat and for awhile when I was really bad at the beginning of my disease I really had a lot of difficulty swallowing and almost a choking sensation as things stuck I was so dry. I was told this was part of my Sjogren's syndrome and of course to be very careful with what I ate etc. To this day, the white meat of turkey is a big no-no even though it is good for me it is just too dry even when cooked by the best. I am curious to see what other rheumys say so keep me posted. Thanks. Tracie

Guest guest
Tracie and group; I have had that problem to. I tell all my doctors. One of them said that Sometimes our swallowing reflex gets a spasm .( not in his words). I figure he just don't know lol. But I get a choking feeling sometimss. A few times it scared me half to death. I thought I was choking to death. I am also horase. Does hoarsness and swallowing problems have anything to do with RA? Does anyone know the answer for sure. Also my jaw hurts a lot. I remember a few people made a comment on this before. I looked up sjogrens disease. I have All symptons except the dry eyes. I didnt read it all. But I am goin to ask my primary doctor to test me for it. gentle hugs > Hi again, > > , I also have sticking in my throat and for awhile when I was really bad at the beginning of my disease I really had a lot of difficulty swallowing and almost a choking sensation as things stuck I was so dry. Guest guest
Melynda, Do you have bad problems with acid reflux? I have had it for years. Because of it I developed Barrett's Esopahgus, I need my esophagus stretched every few years. Did your drs mention anything about it or referring you to a gastroenterologist? Guest guest
, I can't believe all the problems I have had with my throut and the number of times I have had it stretched and the doc has never memtioned sjogren's to me. He only gives me 5 mins to talk and they are always canceling my appts so I don't know very much even after 13 years.
Guest guest
I have a problem with dry mouth and throat. I also get really dry eyes. I've brushed it off as a side effect from my meds and my dry eyes froim my contacts but I think I'll talk to my doc about it at my visit this week. It does get scary when something goes down but not all the way. Sometimes it feels like it gets stuck in my chest. Do you have that feeling as well? > > Tracie and group; > > I have had that problem to. I tell all my doctors. Guest guest
HI Ladies: I also had an EGD and there was no evidence of narrowing, but I am on Nexium twice a day and since I started my RA meds my Sjogren's has quieted down some. I do still get dry eyes, dry mouth, but deal with those. I chew a lot of ice (yes I am anemic) and I use Restasis when my eyes are really bad. It is very expensive. Good luck to all. Guest guest
Sometimes when I take my stomach med, carafate which is chalky, it does tend to stay far down in my throat often. It feels like it's stuck on a ledge and takes much water to get it off. Also I tend to be hoars in the morning or late evenings. I had an EGD 3 years ago and only shows bile in my stomach. No narrowing yet. Debbie L > > I have a problem with dry mouth and throat. I also get really dry > eyes.
