Guest guest
a and group; I use the lidoderm patches. They work if you can keep them on. I have a solution for that. If anyone else has a different solution please let me know. I wipe the clean dry skin down with alchohol cotton ball. After area to be covered with patch is good and dry, put patch on. Hold down with warm hand. I was told the warm hand will activate the glue in the patch. Hold for one minute. No not 30 seconds. Lay still for about 20 minutes if possible. STays on for me. Some times my clothing will pull them loose. They work great for me. I get to use 3 a day. The doctor said 12 hours on and 12 hours off. She said this is very important. I have osteo in my lower back. My rheumy said she will work on the osteo when we get the RA in check. So in the meantime she prescribes me pain patches for the osteo. If you put the patch on a movable limb, I cut it to fit. I don't know if your allowed to do this but I do it. I hope it helps you paula I hate for anyone to be in pain. gentle kind hugs Clora > > Hi All, > Could anyone tell me if they have used the Lidoderm patches and if they help? Maybe it worked for some of the other group members. They do no take away all of the discomfort, but it does help! I haven't had trouble with them staying on, but I guess my pants help to secure it on also... Guest guest
They have given him the wrong medicine....I use the lidocaine prilocaine cream.....this is used to numb the skin for injections...you must use a bio occlusive dressing with this....the numbness only lasts an hour or so....THIS IS Not the same medication.....also when applying you don't rub it in you place a layer about 1/8 of an inch....... Deb RN From: neck pain [mailto:neck pain ] On Behalf Of jeannieboo1 Sent: Thursday, April 30, 2009 2:28 PM neck pain Subject: lidoderm patches My husband goes to the VA for all his medical, and when he first started going a few years ago for pain, in addition to medication they would send 2 boxes of lidoderm patches a month. Then about a year ago, they stopped that and sent 2 boxes of lidocaine ointment in tubes. This month we got just 1 jar of lidocaine ointment, but it's more like a cream. We didn't get any info with it, so I was wondering if anyone knows what the difference is with all these different packagings, or if it's just more cost effective for the VA, and if one form is more effective than the other? We got a laugh from the lidocaine in the jar-it says it's spearmint flavored! He called the pharmacy to make sure he got the right rx, they said he did, but weren't any more helpful. They're so over-whelmed here with all the vets who retired here, plus there's a big Air Force base. Just wondered if anyone could clarify this for us. Guest guest
Deb, So you think they sent the wrong medication? We had something else happen today-he gets methadone every month also sent by mail, he received it a couple days ago-today, he received a bottle of generic for Dilaudad, he's supposed to take that according to the instructions, but his dr. didn't tell him he was giving it to him, nor did he say to stop the methadone-it's a low dose for pain, we always thought when his pain increased, they would increase the methadone dose. He called the pharmacy, no luck, they said they would page the dr. to have him call us, of course we had no reply. Now this is getting scary, and I don't want him to take the Dilaudad until this matter is straightened out. He's been wanting to change drs. for awhile now, maybe this will make him get on the ball. This is the first time VA has really given us problems, they've been a big help up till now. The patches really worked better than the ointment, but what do we do with this new cream-have him take it back to his dr.? Thanks for your help Jeannie ________________________________
Guest guest
, Thanks for your reply, I understand that anyone who replies to our postings are not MD's, it's nice to have the different opinions-at least I think that's the safest word to use. Anyways, I didn't know Dilaudad was a breakthrough med. I looked it up online, and it was mentioned it's used in hospitals often. This is not the first time my husband has all of a sudden received surprise medications from this dr. in the mail. He gets almost all his meds. from VA through the mail, but usually he's aware of what's being sent as it's a refill, or been discussed with him prior to him leaving the appt. I keep suggesting he change dr.'s-I think he just doesn't want to rock the boat, but maybe with this happening he'll listen to me. He's going to make some phone calls this week, it's not real easy to just get a walk-in appt. here. With his job, he can't just walk around like a zombie with both those pain pills in his system. He did try the pharmacy, but he got someone who had a heavy accent still after being in the U.S. for awhile. Hopefully he'll get everything resolved soon. Other than these glitches, he gets good care from the VA. Thanks again Jeannie ________________________________
Guest guest
Deb, He's been taking methadone for a couple years now on just a low dose, and has other meds. for muscle spasms, an anti-inflammatory, as well as a muscle relaxer. Can you explain what the word " titrate " is? It's the first time I've heard it, and I'd like to explain it to my husband. Am I right in thinking that the lidoderm patches are more costly than the ointments or cream? He tried the cream, he said it kind of felt like it worked faster than the patch. Thanks Jeannie ________________________________
