Guest guest
Hi all, Has anyone been told by their Rhuemy or GP/Primary (That's what you call your family doctor isn't it?? )that some drugs they take may affect your cycle? Or have/are experiencing fluctuations with their cycle? I am yet to see in any consumer sheets a mention of changes to menstruation cycles yet mine is all over the place! They are unpredictable & sometimes really heavy or they may be really light & last more than a week. I get extremely fatigued around this time too, so it would be nice if they were little more predictable so I can plan around this. I'm prescribed sulfasalazine, diclofenac (voltaren) & prednisone (5mg/day). I've been on diclofenac for a while & I don't think this is the culprit. Last flare I had I was on Lasix for a while & it definitely played havoc & from the post that recently put up about sulfasalzine it is apparently related. Thanks all, (((group))) Sharon of Oz P.S. (OT) exciting news!!, this is my last day at my current job. I'm a chef at a mining village working 2 weeks on 1 week off, 10 hour shifts, doing breakfast. The return of my RA (6 months remission) has forced me to re-evaluate my priorites, so I have found a job back home, 5 days a week, 8 hours a day & no more graveyard shifts. I will be home with my family, friends & my 2 hairy kids Happy days
Guest guest
Sharon, I am on sulfasalzine, dicofenic, plaquinel and my cycles have been normal. (Heavy, painful, etc). I asked my rheumy if there was a connection and he said no. I know a few of us on here have endometriosis and Poly Cystic Ovarian syndrome. I don't know if it's RA related or not. It's something you might want to ask your ob/gyn. I am constantly fatgiued and my rheumy prescribed me provigil and it has done wonders for me. I don't know if I answered your question or not...that has been my experience. Take care. > > Hi all, > > Has anyone been told by their Rhuemy or GP/Primary (That's what you > call your family doctor isn't it?? )that some drugs they take may > affect your cycle? Guest guest
Hello Sharon. I think that prednisone can cause this. Check out this site here: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a601102.html#side-effects I myself have had problems missing periods and my gynecologist has found that my prolactin levels (in my blood) are too high. They think this is being caused by a medication I was taking (Reglan) for another condition. At first they were attributing the missed periods to the prednisone. In any case, I would definitely call the gynecologist just in case. Guest guest
You don't mention your age, Sharon. It is always possible that you are experiencing perimenopausal symptoms. Before my period stopped at age 52, my cycles were all over the place and mostly very heavy. There were months when I would bleed for weeks. This is quite common and heavy bleeding will cause fatigue. I was put on low dose birth control pills to try to regulate the bleeding, but it didn't help much. Finally after a few years of it, it just stopped....thankfully! Have you discussed it with your gynecologist? Congrats on your change in jobs. The reduction in hours should help somewhat with your fatigue. Guest guest
Hi Sharon This is what i love about this group, things you notice about yourself and just shrug off thinking you are becoming hyper aware of every little change in your body/health. I had a coil until about 6 months ago and since i had it removed my cycle has been a mess, i was always had really heavy & painful but regular as clockwork, now they are all over the place sometimes only a couple of days and other times never ending (my record is 10days!) I dont know for sure if the drugs interfere but i take sulfasalazine(18 months), methotrexate(6 months), diclofenac, amotryptoline and omeprazole( all 31/2 months), as well as the usual folic acid and pain killers! I will make a note to ask about this, meantime if you find out more id be interested to hear it Sharon xx (not of OZ of UK, lol) [ ] RA med's & menstruation Hi all, Has anyone been told by their Rhuemy or GP/Primary (That's what you call your family doctor isn't it?? )that some drugs they take may affect your cycle? Guest guest
Sorry, I'm 30 These changes have been recent, like the last 10 weeks or so, since I have started sulfasazine & prednisone. That's how irratic they are, normally if my cycle changes it is slowly over a period (no pun intended ) of several months to a year & I barely notice it. Guest guest
prednisone wreaks havoc with menstrual cycle. when i was on it i got very heavy bleeding 1st 2-3 days. would have to change tampon every 45 mins.!! it's a synthetic hormone so makes sense that it would affect cycle. monique
Guest guest
Lori and group; I am reading all the post now. I have put a red flag on the ones I intend to comment on. I guess this is new or I just found the red flag lol. So a few of you will be getting comments later. I got 56 emails, not all post. I like to read them, than later answer. So I marked them with a red flag to read later. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, I had to answer this one now. I think I have all those side affects from previous meds or illnesses. Itching, headaches, nausea, etc.. Yes, I have talked to my doctors. I take meds to counter effect them lol. I am glad you posted the side affects of prednisone. I was wanting to see the love hate with this med. I love it. But my doctor is only keeping me on for a while till I start my Humira injections. Thanks for posting it Lori. gentle hugs Clora > > Hello Sharon. I think that prednisone can cause this.
