My sheltie has Lyme disease but I wouldn't catch it from him unless he was

bitten by a tick that then jumped off of him and bit me.  I know also that dogs

get arthritis, its interesting that they can get the same diseases as humans.

I know this is a long shot but has anyone ever heard of this? They

think one of my dogs has it and we're waiting for an appointment with a

specialist. This is just so strange to me...they keep saying I have it

along with my other diseases and testing me for it and one of my dogs

gets it.

Dogs, and other animals, can get many of the same diseases as people.

Not to say that these diseases are zoonotic (transferable between

humans and animals) but they can get cancer, lupus, arthritis, autism,

and many others. Cats get a disease like HIV. We aren't that far

removed from animals in the grand scheme of things. There are many

dogs that have rheumatoid arthritis as well. They often use them to

test drugs for our medications. They recently finished a study at

Purdue University on dogs with RA to test new medications.

Does your dog have lupus symptoms, or are they wondering because of a

blood test result?

Dogs can get lupus. Also, pets and their owners sometimes have the

same antibodies.
