Hi Michele,

I've recently started Sulfasalzine, been on it for 3 months now. I

think it is starting to work, my main nemesis for pain was my left knee

& it's been pretty good. I managed 4 hrs of brushcutting yesterday &

although she gave a bit of jip in the afterrnoon, it didn't wake me up

last night.

I think I've gotten off very lightly re: side effects. Most

of my side effects seem to be from the prednisone. I see my Rhuemy next

Friday so I will know more then.

I Wish I had taken it when he had prescribed it last flare but

he didn't tell me what it was for & the side effect list was HUGE & at

that time I was getting better & the jury was still out about whether

it was RA or a viral arthritis like Ross River or Barmah forest. As it

was I went into remission for 6 months. But, if I had been taking it &

kept up with my Rhuemy appointments it might not have taken 9 months to

get back to this same point.

Why did yor doc switch you from Mtx? Was that one not working

for you?

I've been taking it since the spring. I started with one 500mg Sulfazine EC

tab a day and each week, I added one more. I'm now at 4 per day (2 in the

morning and 2 in the evening.)

I was never on MTX, but have been on Prednisone and I'm just about off that

now. What do you want to know? I believe there are others on it as well.

Hi !

I'm going on about a year and a half of taking it.  It was added to my Plaquenil

after that quit working on its own.  Now, its the only thing I am 3000mgs a

day.  Although I don't think in my case its doing a lot of good on its own since

I think Im having too many flares than I should.  I used to have to have a CBC

done every two weeks while being on the Sulfasalazine but now they only do the

test once every 3 months since I have been on it for a year.  I find I get more

respiratory infections and such and my dr said it can lower the immune system

and act as an immunosuppressant so they have me wear masks during cold and flu

season and to make sure I stay away from those I know are sick.
