Guest guest
I have a lot of anxiety. Sometimes it gets really bad. Last week I had to get a prescription from Albertsons. I had to wait because it wasn't ready yet. I sat in a plastic chair shaking. I had to focus on a spot on the floor and stare at it. When I was finally called I couldn't look at the clerk and my hands were shaking so badly I dropped the money on the floor and had a hard time picking it up. I finally left and sat in my car trying to breath. I considered calling 911 but my husband was out of town and the kids needed to be picked up. It was horrible. On another day I had to have blood taken and I had to tell the lab tech I was scared of needles and the sight of blood, which I'm not, because I was so embarrased. Anyway, you're not alone. --- In , " eandsspivey " <emilyspivey@...> wrote: > > I've noticed in posts that some of you suffer from these, as I do. Guest guest
Joanna and and group; I notised when I am out of my xanax for a day or so I get the shakes. I only take one xanax at night. I tried to wean myself off of them a few months ago and realized taking prednisone I needed them. Cause prednisone causees insominia. I am off the prednisone now so I can start weaning myself off the xanax. I understand everyone is not the same. Just explainiing my circumstance. I don't know if I was out of xanax. I was alone in line at walmart. It was a long line too. When I got to the clerk I was really shaking also. I had to write a check. My hands were trembling fiercely. I was thinking the clerk must think I am writing a bad check I am shaking so much. It made me shake worse. I almost ran out of the store and leave everything. I sat in my car and thought of calling 911 also. I seem to calm down so I went home. I don't go anywhere alone now cause I have RA pretty bad. So its not that bad anymore. That was an aweful expierence. I had it happen to me in traffic one time. I was at a very large and busy intersection. I didn't know what to do at first. Do I turn do I sit here. I was in the street suppose to turn. I finally turned. THat was really scary. My nerves use to be really bad. I think now the kids are on their own. I dont work. I can deal better now. Worry can make your nerves bad to I have heard. I try everthing to make it better. Something is working. Maybe talk to a doctor about it. I hope it gets better for both of you. If I lived In Houston I would be a nervous wreck too. I watched tv about the hurricanes. We get tornados a lot. Mostly in the country part. OMG I just moved in the country area. I will be at my daughters when the storms hit next time. SHe lives in the middle of the city. Tornados can hit anywhere. gentle hugs Clora > I have a lot of anxiety. Sometimes it gets really bad. Guest guest
Hi - I'm sorry you experience these dreaded attacks, too. They are horrible! I sent you an email with a couple of attachments that I found useful on Anxiety. I pray they help. I'm rather surprised your doctor didn't give you something other than Xanax to quiet your attacks. How many per day are you having to take? I take Celexa 20mg on a daily basis and use the Xanax only at night to help me sleep or if I have a breakthrough attack during the day. For the most part, the Celexa keeps things under control. Hang in there, honey and keep that dental appointment tomorrow. You will be glad you did. Maybe make an appointment with your doctor to discuss alternatives to Xanax that might be more effective. My prayers are with you. I know how you're feeling..........Doreen > > I've noticed in posts that some of you suffer from these, as I do. > Can someone please tell me how to deal with the anxiety? Guest guest
Thank you all for the support. I am trying to talk myself into making a doctor's appointment and have called in a refill on a medicine I had stopped taking because my insurance doesn't cover it. I'll just have to bite the bullet, it did help when I took it. I confirmed my dental appointment and am going to try to make myself go. Thank you all again. > > Hi - I'm sorry you experience these dreaded attacks, too. They > are horrible! I sent you an email with a couple of attachments that I > found useful on Anxiety. I'll just have to bite the bullet, it did help when I took it. I confirmed my dental appointment and am going to try to make myself go. I'm thinking that maybe part of the problem is the pain, and being overwhelmed by it. I had forgotten how bad the change in weather is every Fall and since the temp has lowered this week, my joints and muscles (I have RA, OA, Fibro and DDD) have been telling me. I will try to work on that too! Thank you all again. > > Hi - I'm sorry you experience these dreaded attacks, too. They > are horrible! Guest guest
.. I used to be agoraphobic to the point where I did not leave the house for a couple of years. Couldn't even walk out the front door. I have spent since this past December seeing a CBT therapist once a week. I now go out a few times a week, do my own shopping, traveled alone to Chicago. If we give in to the anticipatory anxiety and fear we make it worse. Honestly, its only fear and its not going to hurt us. Unless we give into it of course because then it over powers us. Its all mind over matter. Through hard work on telling myself positive affirmations, taking 10 deep breaths (this AUTOMATICALLY calms down the nervous system..just deep breathing!!), distracting yourself, telling yourself you can get through this and will!! " This too shall pass " is one of my favorite mantras.  I can tell you my generalized anxiety disorder/panic disorder and agoraphobia are really bad. My doctor won't and really can't as insurance will not pay unless I threaten to take my life, pay for a hospitalization. It doesn't work much for anxiety disorders on their own anyway..as we feel more trapped. Find some things that you enjoy doing, aromatherapy (Lavendar) is very soothing! Sometimes I take a dryer sheet that is scented in lavendar with me when I travel if I don't take my lavender essential oil. Drink lots of water, that too seems to help. Avoid ANY and all caffeine or sugar if you have these in your diet. I no longer eat/drink them at all. If I cheat, Im guaranteed to have 7 panic attacks in one day. What we fear most is getting in public and having a panic attack. The thing is, if we did, it would pass. And we would still be ok! They won't kill us and they won't make us lose our minds (common misperceptions we tend to have). My CBT therapist asks me " what is the worst thing that could happen? " And the truth is, I could have a panic attack. Yet I've survived them since I was a child (my earliest happened in 4th grade) and I'm 36 now and still alive! And with all the CBT they are getting few and far between! Perhaps there is someone that could go to the dentist with you? And please be gentle with yourself. You were worried about your husband in Houston in the storm. It's ok to feel that fear. That may even be why the anxiety is so high right now (situational anxiety). You worry over his safety and it is a bit harder to relax. Classical and soothing music works well too. They tell me to listen to 30 minutes a day and it really does help distract and calm me down:) From: eandsspivey <emilyspivey@...> Subject: [ ] Anxiety attacks/agrophobia (sp?) Date: Wednesday, September 17, 2008, 9:49 AM I've noticed in posts that some of you suffer from these, as I do. Can someone please tell me how to deal with the anxiety? My husband is in Houston (the storm) and I can't go to the doctor....if I did, I'm afraid he would hospitalize me, which won't work because there's no one here to take care of my dogs. There's nothing " wrong " to make me so anxious, it just starts about an hour after I get up each day. I have a dental appointment tomorrow which I have cancelled 3 times because I just can't get myself to get in the car and drive there and there's no one I can call to take me. Guest guest
, Sorry I'm late posting, I've been sick, and have spent time in bed. I too have anxiety, but I am not on any medication at the time. I'm very sorry your having that feeling. I hope your hubby is able to come home soon. Do you have any friends to come stay with you, and take you to the doctor? I will keep you in my prayers, and if you need someone to talk to email me, we can IM too.
