I was diagnosed with RA aout 5 years ago.  My rheum recently ran blood work that

made

her suspect autoimmune hepatitis.  I saw the hepatologist yesterday who thinks

it is

Primary Biliary Cirrhosis.  I get my liver biopsy on Sept 9th.  A little anxious

to get some answers.  I have been on many of the RA drugs.  Feel free to ask any

questions.

I was diagnosed in 1997 with auto hep and then with Ra in 2001. The

sympoms, especially the joint pain, are very similar. I take

azathioprine, 150 mg a day for both, plus Urso forte for my liver. I

originally took methotrexate and did well but after the RA diagnosis my

docs took me off. Anyone else have these particular auto diseases??

My joint pain and the other RA symptoms are progressing and a biologic

looms large...I have a lot of concern about introducing new meds.

,

I have had 3 liver biopsies...about every 3 years.  I also have PBC...once the

meds kicked in I immediately felt better...and I also felt great relief!  My

understanding is that auto hep and Ra together are very rare.  Let me know how

things go on the 9th and good luck!

Hello!

I was wondering if you know what tests they did to diagnose autoimmune

hepatitis? I've had abnormal liver functions beginning in 1999 (I was 28 years

old then and am now 36).  I've not had a normal liver functions since then..they

have been constantly abnormal.  This was before I began taking any medications

and became ill so they know it's not from any side effects of meds.  I was

tested for hepatitis b and c and a few rare liver diseases.  I had to go to the

lab 5 weeks in a row, every Saturday and have a few vials drawn for tests.  I

had a liver ultrasound then a biopsy a couple of years ago.  I just went to the

liver clinic a few months ago for a followup.  He stated my numbers were a

little less than the previous years but still abnormal.  My diagnosis is

" hepatitis " .  He told me that sometimes people have enlarged livers and abnormal

results and we don't always find out why.  He said they can keep a watch on my

enzymes and if they

increase at all, I'll have to have biopsies every five years.  I know sometimes

livers can have small pockets of stored fat, no matter how healthy a diet I

eat.  He said that sometimes those pockets are missed during a biopsy so that

makes it harder to diagnose.
