Guest guest
I think I'm one of the fortunate ones. I have had a great experience with both of my rheumatologists. Just to explain, my normal rheumatologist wanted a second opinion before starting me on some of these medications, because of the side effects. In both cases, they were professional, courteous and attentive. I had a couple of problems with my dosage for prednisone and I got a prompt response back from both offices, with the doctor in question calling me personally instead of trying to go through a nurse. If I feel I need to be seen, I can get in the next day and I've never even had to wait longer than 5 minutes in the waiting room. One of the doctors did tell me up front that it can take awhile to see if the medication is going to work, so I knew what to expect. My GP doesn't try to treat things on his own, with the exception of something like an infection. He'll tell me straight up that he's not the expert in that area and refer me right to a specialist. And to top it off doesn't charge me the copay for my visit! Initially, the RA presented itself in my feet. I went from normal activity to walking with great pain over the period of about 10 days. I was sent to a podiatrist who studied my feet thoroughly and who was the one who suspected RA. A bone scan confirmed the arthritis. He then referred me to the rheumatologist. Because of the arthritis and the deformities I have in my feet, I'll continue to be treated by him as well. He's been nothing but extremely personable and professional. He actually called me once out of the blue to see how I was doing with the rheumatologist! So, there are good doctors out there. Just keep looking until you find one that suits you. Guest guest
Syndie, I loved my doctor, I raved about him and he was fantastic for 9 years, then, I had a major flare, was in the hospital and I can't tell you how much he disappointed me but I met one of the other men in the practice and am now seeing him and I really like him so far, so we'll see. I also really like my primary but would change any doctor that didn't fit. mary in pa [ ] any positive stories? I've appreciated the helpful information I have read on this list. However, I would like to know if there is anyone that actually LIKES their doctor? I read a lot of negativity but I don't think I've read about too many positive experiences concerning the medical profession. Anyone have a positive story or experience they wish to share? I happen to work in the medical field. So I certainly can see it from both angles. I also know there are as many good physicians as bad ones (and I've known quite a few quacks professionally). I'm a stickler for physicians referring to a specialist if they don't have an answer. There's no excuse for that one. I am hoping and optimistic that my first visit to the rheumatologist next month will be a positive experience and will put me on the right path. And if it isn't, well, I will just go out and find a new one. Syndie
Guest guest
I really like my rheumy. She saw the very sad shape I was in and was determined to get me to a much better place. And she did. I went from unable to care for myself at all and a major effort to walk to my current state which is 95% functioning. I still get tired easier than normal, and have little pain occaisionally. > > I've appreciated the helpful information I have read on this list. Guest guest
Syndie, I am very pleased with my rheumatologist. When I kept complaining about my wrist pain she suspected that some of it could be coming from my neck. I was sent for x-rays and the radiologist called her to inform that I have severe cervical problems. She called me and said that I already had an appointment at the same center for an MRI the next morning if I could make it. Long story short, this past May 15, I had 2 herniated disc and my spinal stenois repaired along with the suprs removed and bone grafting. She sent me to a neuro-surgeon that I love and his office assistant has been wonderful working with my company disability department. I still have the RA damage to my wrist and I don't know if this will fix the wrist issues because the joints are putting pressure on a tendon. I am glad though to have some damage repaired and I think that I am recovering at a good pace. I should be able to return to work on July 30. I just wanted to express some good that both of these doctors have brought me. Shirley
