Hi Claribel,

I'm a seronegative. I have had many other tests to DX me last July 2007.

Also positive reactions to medications help as well. My issues are mostly in

my hands, but i have OA in my knees and lower back, along with facet arth, a

hemangio tumor, annular tear, and many other things, there is probably a

partridge in a pear tree too! I have had a build of synovial fluid in my finger

joints, requiring shots, splints that i know wears, etc. I also have a friend

that tested positve for the RA factor and was just told she does NOT have

RA. When we are together, we have totally different symptoms. She's got lupus

and sjogrens, me, RA. I've had the fatigue, can't walk on certain fatigue

and have these hand issues....totally different ballgame. So the factor is odd

to me. That's me 2.5 cents.

had a similar experience and took so long to get a Dx.

Claribel,

I am one who is seronegative. It's called Destructive Inflamatory

Arthritis, workd as normal RA. MRI of hands can help to prove it.

Knees don't get RA, only osteoarthritis - so I'm told.

Claribel,

Yes, it sounds like it. I have sero-neg and I'm also CCP neg but I have a

severe case. I had

my first symptom 22 years ago. It took many years to get diagnosed. Push

because the

earlier you treat, the better. I'm on Remicade and mtx and I'm still in pain.

Best of luck

and DON'T give up. YOU know your body! RA does attack the knees, both of mine

have

lost range of motion and hurt.

Hello! There are a few of us seronegative here! I know it is a very frustrating

process getting diagnosed and treated.  I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia when I

was 30 and am now 36.  Two years after being diagnosed with the Fibromyalgia, I

began to have warm knee joints, swelling and pain.  The rheumatologist really

didn't get to see that as by the time I got to see her (every 12 weeks) some of

the symptoms except pain and swelling would be gone.  First I was diagnosed with

Bilateral Patella Femoral Syndrome (which I do have so was a correct

diagnosis).  Yet physical therapy did not help the issue.  Finally, a GP did an

xray and found joint knee effusions and said it was inflammatory arthritis.

Well, the rheumatologist didn't see those upon exam so therefore sent me to

sports med doctor.  He couldn't find anything, said it was inflammatory but

would have me see an orthopedic doctor.  Saw that dr and again, this doctor said

it was

inflammatory.  I had a consult with 2 orthos' and the sports med doctor all in

one room and they said inflammatory.  Sent me back to the rheumatologist who was

supposed to begin treatment.  She then left the university, so I had a new

doctor.  This doctor diagnosed it as " unknown multiple arthopathies " (I believe

that was the word).  Yet after awhile, she began treating me with Plaquenil to

help the " inflammatory " .  I do not have an ANA< but have an elevated CRP and ESR

and Westegren.  Later, they added Sulfasalazine to the mix.  My diagnosis at

another clinic in the hospital is seronegative arthritis, yet on a recent

billing, she had used the diagnosis unspecified connective tissue disease.  Now

she puts it all to Fibromyalgia code which makes no sense when knees are

swollen, warm, and fluid is constantly on them.  My treatment was Plaquenil and

Sulfasalazine but now its just the Sulfasalazine so I shall see how it goes.

We, Seronegative,

don't classically present, so it can be a long slow process to getting any

answers, and even then, sometimes the answers do not seem definitive to me.

Which is then frustrating, as I don't want to be taking medication if they

" feel " I don't have something.  Good luck on your treatment path and keep us

updated:) Eventually we will get answers:)

Hi Claribel

Wow 3 Rheumy's and no diagnoses that's tough.

I am sero negative AND no raised ESR or CRP (even at the height of a

flare) - apparently it's heard of but not common. My Rhuemy said the

person that figures out why not will be god like!

I even asked to have my blood clotting checked as the ESR's were the

most baffling considering the errosions and look of my fingers and

toes.

I've got x-ray visable erosions of hands, feet and spine, however my

spine is mixed with Osteo also (maybe from some horse riding

accidents), but even before this my syptoms were given the diagnoses

at my 1st Rhuematologists appoint.

Has anyone given you a differential diagnoses?

What symptoms are you experiencing? There's actually some criteria

which is suppose to give the diagnoses regardless of bloods.

Have you been given an meds to try at all? I hope you're not in

constant pain!

Best of luck

Hello Claribel,

Your recent posts and queries rang some bells, and so I did a search. If

you type 'elevated platelets' in the search space on this site and

click search mail, you will see my posting on an earlier thread in

July, following a query from someone else with sero-neg arthritis.

Obviously everone's scenario is somewhat different, but patterns and

subtle blood changes often give important clues.

Your CRP, sed rate and elevated platelets, certainly suggest a reactive

inflammatory process, matching your symptoms, even if the precise

diagnosis is not as yet clear cut.

Good luck

have been applying some ice packs twice a day and finished my NSAIDs.

Hi there,

I'm doing well thanks....i'm really lucky, i was prepared for a week of

horrible pain, but to my surprise, I have hardly any pain at all, just some

scrapes and bruises. I've been going to the gym, 30 min on the treadmill,

doing

some upper body strengthening, maybe it is helping. Who knows???

Have to do while I can....Hugs and smiles...

Claribel,

All my tests came back normal but all my symptoms pointed to RA.  so dr dx as

seronegative.  It's frustrating and I have been on predisone, plaquenil and MTX

since Apr.  Haven't been able to work but hoping to go back Oct 1.  Good luck.
