Thank you! I know I have no idea what she would be testing for either! I

remember her saying that she was checking my proteins but she didn't state why.

I went to that website had provided awhile back labs.online.org I think it

is..I found the link in the article she had provided.  It stated checking for

blood clotting, but I don't think a rheumatologist would check for that?!

Usually my cardiologist does.  I did find an article that said it could show

signs of acute or chronic inflammation so maybe that's what it's for.  I've

never heard of it in all my 8 years of seeing a rheumatologist and am quite sure

it has never been done before.

" a method of analysing a mixture of proteins by means of gel

electrophoresis, mainly in blood serum " Wikipedia

although I have NO idea why they would be testing or what it tells

them! (that wasn't very useful was it?)

Typically, I always have the same tests done. Yet this last time it

was apparently a test I'm not familiar with. I received my monthly

statement and this time my labwork was sent to a pathologist. The

test is 84165 protein, electrophoretic fractionation and

quantitation. Does anyone happen to know in layman's terms what that

means? I tried to understand it but I couldn't find anything outside

of complicated medical terms! Thanks so much

Thank you so much that helps explain things much clearer! She must have been

either checking my liver or perhaps even my immune system since I'm seronegative

According to a dated lab test book I have, a protein electrophoresis

is an evaluation of serum proteins to diagnose, eval and monitor the

disease course in patients with cancer, immune disorders, liver

dysfunction, chronic edematous states and other medical problems.

It's a complex test with several different results.
