Guest guest
I had some labwork done at my last appointment a few weeks ago. Typically, I always have the same tests done. Yet this last time it was apparently a test I'm not familiar with. I received my monthly statement and this time my labwork was sent to a pathologist. The test is 84165 protein, electrophoretic fractionation and quantitation. Does anyone happen to know in layman's terms what that means? I tried to understand it but I couldn't find anything outside of complicated medical terms! Thanks so much
Guest guest
" a method of analysing a mixture of proteins by means of gel electrophoresis, mainly in blood serum " Wikipedia although I have NO idea why they would be testing or what it tells them! (that wasn't very useful was it?) > > I had some labwork done at my last appointment a few weeks ago. Typically, I always have the same tests done. Guest guest
According to a dated lab test book I have, a protein electrophoresis is an evaluation of serum proteins to diagnose, eval and monitor the disease course in patients with cancer, immune disorders, liver dysfunction, chronic edematous states and other medical problems. It's a complex test with several different results. Debbie L > > > > I had some labwork done at my last appointment a few weeks ago. > Typically, I always have the same tests done. Guest guest
Protein Electrophoresis With Interpretation, Serum In chemistry and medicine, protein electrophoresis (a.k.a. Immunoelectrophoresis ) is a method of analysing a mixture of proteins by means of gel electrophoresis, mainly in blood serum One of the classes of blood proteins, albumin, will stick to electrically charged gel and form patterns (bands.) If the bands are not normal it can indicate certain problems: multiple myeloma, acute or chronic inflammation, liver problems, hypogammaglubulinemia (an autoimmune disorder), etc. Here's two sites I thought had a good explanations: http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/serum-protein-electrophoresis-spe http://www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz/Atoz/common/standard/transform.jsp?requestU\ RI=/healthatoz/Atoz/ency/protein_electrophoresis.jsp It's not a test I seen done on the psych unit so I really don't know much about it. I don't know if this is helpful or not.
