[ ] Finding a Lawyer for disability?

Hi,

I recently posted my sitaution. I went to work yesterday at my two part

time jobs. That just happened to be back to back shifts. I was in so

much pain i could not sleep. And my left knee wants to just give out

when I stand today.

I really dont think I can work.

I was wondering once you file for disbaility. Can you still find a

lawyer to represent you or is it to late? Also how can you find a

lawyer in your area to represent you?

Thanks for any assitance to this matter.

Mina, if you decide to file the initial claim yourself and then get denied,

you can get a lawyer at that point. I would suggest that you first join one

of the groups that discuss disability cases for some tips. I belong to one

called " disinissues " and you can find it and others at the site

where you joined this group.

As far as finding a lawyer, there are a couple of national firms like:

or

http://binderandbinder.com/infocall_form_google.asp

I'm not recommending either. I have heard good and bad about both. I used

a local attorney that my neurologist recommended so you might ask your

doctor.

Also, take a look at http://disabilitysecrets.com/ which will give you some

information about the whole process.

Mina,

I would call around your area. I got a lawyer 2 months after I

filed, I didn't wait to get denied. I got approved on the 1st try.

I don't know if it helped me (I was approved in 6 months)...but I

don't think it hurt my case. They even approved my onset date, no

questions asked. My friend who applied around the same time I did

(she has lupus and MS) and frankly she is in worse shape then I am,

she got denied and got a lawyer afterwards; her case hearing is a

year away.

It's hard financially while you are in the process; I had to stay w/

my mother. Yeah, it cost me a few thousand from my back pay for

retaining a lawyer...but it was worth it because I was approved

fairly quickly and my onset date was approved as well. Keep us

updated.

Dorothy,

My main illnesses were my RA and fibromyalgia. I also suffer from

PTSD and anxiety from a tramatic hospitization and mild bi-polar. I

gave SSA all of my medical records from the past two years, including

the hospitiazation. (I get copies of everything from every doctor I

see). I took that personally to my local SSA office. (It was ALOT).

I stated that my RA and fibro were manageable until the sepsis.

After that point, my RA/fibro went into " overdrive " and I could no

longer work. I provided pictures of my joints from before the sepsis

and after. Yes, I am weird for taking pictures of my joints...but I

keep detailed medical history for myself on my own. When I did the

filled out the paperwork, I was very specific on how my RA/fibro

affected my daily activites. I told of my treating doctors that I am

applying for SSDI. They filled out their paperwork. I didn't see an

SSA appointed doctor for a medical exam, but I did have to see a

psychologist.

I can't tell you why I got approved so quickly, but only what I did.

Maybe it was because SSA didn't have to wait for my medical records,

maybe it was because I was very through with my description on why. I

did get a lawyer from the start. He didn't wait for me to get

denied, he put in a motion for a hearing when I retained him. He

said let him know when I get denied. I didn't. They approved me and

they approved my onset date, so he canceled my hearing. Maybe it was

because I did get a lawyer and SSA didn't want to bother fighting my

claim because I had representation from the beginning. I don't know.

I am 31, I thought they would deny me based on my age alone. All I

know is that I did something right and I can tell you what I did.

I agree. I called alot of social security lawyers and all of them

told me to wait until I got denied and give them a call...unless I

pay for them up front. The lawyer I got is in Colorado Springs (I

live in Denver). He had no problem representing me from the

beginning. His fee would be taken from my back pay. He told me that

I was lucky that I got approved on the 1st try, he didn't do

much...but I really think it helped me. He told me never go up

against the government alone...get someone who knows what they are

doing. I would recommend anyone filing for SSDI to get a lawyer from

the start and not wait to get denied. Keep a pain journal, get

copies of your medical records from every doctor, test, labs etc. It

helps when you see a new doctor to have everything.

Hi Mina - I found my SS Attorney AFTER I had received two denials by

Googling " Social Security Attorneys, my city, state " . I am still

waiting for a court date, but I am happy with my attorney as she ONLY

deals with SSD cases. Hope this helps.............Doreen :)

Thank you Dorothy,

I shall speak to my Dr on this sometime this week or next. As this

week seems to be jammed. But I do want to get help on this matter. I

need to be able to take care of myself somehow. And I think honestly

working is making me more ill.I worked again last night. I was

throwng up for hours and could not sleep due to more pain.
