Why RD's don't get respect

Colleagues,

Over and over and over, for years and years and years...I have heard colleagues

complain about how they don't get respect. I just witnessed something here in

Arizona that speaks volumes about why.

Ignite (it's kind of like TEDx) Phoenix recently decided to add a totally

food-based event, Ignite Food. When I heard aboutmit, I immediately posted an

application. I watched and waited and hoped to see other dietitians submit

ideas...and watched...and waited...nothing.

I was accepted to present, and found out later that the call for submissions was

posted several times on the state dietetic list serve.

I'm not writing to flaunt my acceptance here, but to share how sad I am that I

am not sharing the stage with a handful of colleagues. This could have been our

night to shine, and we blew it off.

The best networking is NOT amongst ourselves, in the comfort zone of our

professional meetings, it is when we get into the public arena and show them

just how much we have to offer.

Here's hoping for round two, I have some stiffer competition. :)
