Guest guest
I have a patient who is allergic to the supplement form of D. She has tried all different kinds but has the same reactions, some of which sound like a few your patient has. It may be something else in the supplement as well so I would definately look into ingredient lists and your pt allergies. the ergocalciferol may be a better route Green RD, LD, CDM Clinical/Outpatient Dietitian Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center kgreen@... ________________________________ From: rd-usa [rd-usa ] On Behalf Of leigh willingham [leighwillinghamrd@...] Sent: Friday, July 13, 2012 8:32 AM To: rd-usa Subject: [sPAM?] help with OTC vitamin D side effects Hi everyone! I have a client who is coming to me with questions about side effects she's had when trying to supplement with vitamin D. Her 25(OH) D levels were tested to be 13 ng/mL. She also has hypothyroid but admits she is semi-noncompliant w/ her thyroid meds. She has tried several dosages (250-5,000 IU) of OTC vitamin D3 with the same effects beginning about 1 week after starting: hot flashes, vaginal bleeding, sleeplessness, " feeling crazy " . Has anyone heard of these types of side effects from vitamin D supplementation? Could trying an ergocalciferol formula make a difference? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!
