Guest guest
Pam, So what is EBM " based on " anyway? The principles are often built from skewed research and drugs that have not been fully or properly tested! Look at how many drugs end up as the CAUSE of a patient's demise or the cause of a cascade of new conditions. If my cholesterol is high and the doctor tells me to eat oatmeal every morning (which they often say), then I would really be in trouble since I have a food sensitivity to oatmeal. But what if I didn't know that? My problems would definitely become worse, and I would then get into a domino effect of many ensuing health issues. By the way, I found that oatmeal sensitivity by having an MRT test through the LEAP program, but I couldn't get my doctor to sign for my LEAP test because he basically said it was not " evidence based " . Many of my clients run into that trouble too. I often wonder though - just who decides the evidence-based parameters? How can evidence-based cover all bases? It can't! I have avoided many health disasters, just by knowing what my food sensitivities are. Many aspects of patient care depend on individual factors which are only partially subject to scientific methods. It is not ok to perform a hysterectomy just because.....or to do lab tests or x-rays just because......To treat everyone the same for a disease is really missing the point of patient care. What happened to " first do no harm " ? In many cases adhering to EBM has done a lot of harm because so many other obvious markers were missed (Both of my parents were victims of this). I have seen EBM make robots out of healthcare providers who are so busy going by " the book " that they don't stop and listen to what the patient is saying. CAM is a " think outside the book " approach to medicine, and that's why it's catching on so rapidly. CAM is being put down very heavily by medical associations and medical boards because it's working, and it's a threat to the EBM approach. Jacquelyn A.
