Guest guest
Hi Kathy - I was put on Cymbalta a while back. Unfortunately, it didn't help my pain. Keep in mind, though that what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. I think that's why all these meds are like a crap shoot and finding the right combination of meds can be a challenge at times. I love your positive attitude and I am also glad you are getting relief with the Cymbalta. Every day is a gift we should all be grateful for. May God Bless you.........Doreen > > I was just wondering if anyone else is taking cymbalta and what the > results are for you. Guest guest
I must have missed this.. I was put on cymbalta with the start of my complex regional pain syndrome as the used it for depression and diabetic neuropothy. It did the job for both for me. And now helps with the arthritis as well. Many people i know are on this. They are also approving it with the fda for fibromyalgia as well. Jolene In a message dated 9/23/2008 9:31:38 A.M. Guest guest
yes it is approved just recently you can read it here _http://www.news-medical.net/?id=39240_ (http://www.news-medical.net/?id=39240) they also use neurontin and lyrica lyrica is actually a sister drug of neurontin .. They use neorontin for a lot of chronic pain issues as well as for other thing. I have complex regional pain syndrome. The old name is rsd. Its a condition that involves the sympathetic nerves. It can stem from trauma such as a stress fracture, a bite etc. And also from surgery. Its highest above the pain scale above cancer .. There is no cure.. I am blessed as i am walking its not so for many people with crps/rsd. I know the cymbalta has helped me in so many ways. I cannot take nuerontin nor lyrica. I take Keppra which is a anti seizure med that also is used for people with nerve conditions. Actually my pain is good im not sure i can say here but god is good and has gotten me back on my feet and i am not on pain meds. Hope this helps. Jolene In a message dated 9/24/2008 12:26:32 A.M. Guest guest
Kathy, I guess, I skipped over your post. Sometimes I do, I don't mean too. If someone is asking for info, I know nothing about, I don't feel like I should answer, know what I mean? I just want to say, glad the Cymbalta is working for you, and helping your pain. Has it helped the depression too? I've thought about trying it, but heard its costly. Bless, Tawny > > I was just wondering if anyone else is taking cymbalta and what the > results are for you. Guest guest
Tawny, A big yes to the cymbalta helping with the depression as well. I have tried several other antidepressants but this one actually makes me feel like a normal human being again. That along with the pain relief has made it a miracle for me. I originally shared this info in hopes that it might be the answer for others. The cost is high. It was around $400.00 for a 3 month supply but, it is replacing two other meds, voltaren(diclofinac) and the other antidepressant I was taking. I hope this info can help others, be sure and ask your rheumy about the studies done. I hope this pain free live will continue and that this info will help others. Guest guest
Kathy, That med is expensive! But, I can understand with your situation, it takes the place of two meds. I will go on a antidepressant when I'm really depressed, and then when I feel I don't need it, I wean off it. I know that probably isn't good, but I get tired of all the meds, and the side effects. I'm so happy its working for you, good news! It sure does help others who need a new med,and it helps 2 problems. Good luck, Tawny > > Tawny, > A big yes to the cymbalta helping with the depression as well. Guest guest
Well i dont say it proudly that im not on them, what i mean is i know that i am blessed. I do use a tens unit for crps so that helps alot. I am a recovering addict alcoholic so i have to stay away from everything. If there comes a time i need pain meds with both conditions they will do the pump that way my doc can manage. My tolerance would be higher than most even though its been almost nineteen years thank god. The kepra helps as well. I know i can wake up tomorrow especially with the rsd and things could change but for now im so blessed. Jolene In a message dated 9/24/2008 5:15:37 P.M. Guest guest
I took cymbalta too.I have fibro and RA and they gave it to me for the fibro and depression I have always had a problem with before the fibro started. It helped the depression fine like most ssri's do,but it didnt make much difference in the pain level I had.I had problems with the sexual side effects that most ssri's can cause so I had my doctor change me to wellbutrin which is what Im still taking now.It works fine for the depression but doesnt cause the problems with decreased libido and other side effects that most ssri's can have.Being in pain from the fibro all the time, and now the RA too, made the depression I have always struggled with much worse, and pain meds also can aggravate depression as most are depressants themselves somewhat the same way that alcohol is a depressant and can make any depression a person has worse instead of better even though they may be intoxicated for a while after drinking it.eventually they come down from the temporary high or euphoria but will be even more depressed afterward.Pain doctors seem to always want people to be on an antidepressant so that their mood is level and pain feeds depression and then the depression feeds the pain in an awful circle.I get very depressed and I get sad and cry a lot and cant seem to get out of bed or get anything done if I dont take something for depression.I just feel overwhelmed all the time with out it.
