Guest guest
After a stress filled weekend worrying about this antibody business, I did get some answers. & nbsp; It appears I have what they refer to as a nuisance antibody as they rarely cause transfusion reactions. & nbsp; & nbsp; The antibody doesn't react, apparently, until it is at a lower temperature. & nbsp; I apparently developed & nbsp;the antibody all by myself, not by pregnancy or transfusion (which I have never had). & nbsp; The blood bank personel who answered my call said that instead of having to test 2 bags of blood against mine to find a match, she might have to check 3...which doesn't sound so bad. & nbsp; So I had to snicker at the name nuisance antibody! & nbsp; At least I know that I am not dying of some weird illness that has remained hidden (I better not say that too loud). & nbsp; & nbsp; I also found out that my mother is A-, the same as myself. & nbsp; I won't know if she will be able to give to me until I need it apparently...which seems odd. & nbsp; I mean, they will collect it, but not cross match right away? & nbsp; In order for her to give to me, that antigen has to be absent in her. & nbsp; Given the fact that they did not call her to ask about previous pregnancies and transfusions maybe she doesn't have it; but then, she isn't the patient either. & nbsp; Unfortunately, she will only be able to give one unit. & nbsp; Shandi
