Guest guest
Hi everyone! I have a client who is coming to me with questions about side effects she's had when trying to supplement with vitamin D. Her 25(OH) D levels were tested to be 13 ng/mL. She also has hypothyroid but admits she is semi-noncompliant w/ her thyroid meds. She has tried several dosages (250-5,000 IU) of OTC vitamin D3 with the same effects beginning about 1 week after starting: hot flashes, vaginal bleeding, sleeplessness, " feeling crazy " . Has anyone heard of these types of side effects from vitamin D supplementation? Could trying an ergocalciferol formula make a difference? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated! Guest guest
Sometimes it's not the vitamin but the excipients in the vitamin. For example, if the supplement contains soy and she has a soy allergy or sensitivity, it might be the soy, not the vitamin D that is causing the problem. I'd start there first. If she has a problem with the soy, Bluebonnet sells a tablet without the soy. Also, magnesium is vitamin D's biggest cofactor...... I would also add some magnesium (not oxide) to her supplementation regimen to make it more effective.
