Guest guest
Hello everyone! I was wondering if anyone here was on SSDI yet working a certain number of hours per week? I am 36 now and I have been home disabled since I was 30. I've realized now, that this has caused me more harm than good. Not only is my income way less than the career I had out of college, but I've become very isolated and rarely left the house. In the beginning I was so ill, I was bedbound for almost 2 years and didn't leave the house. That led my panic disorder to becoming agoraphobia. I've been making really great progress and have decided that pain or no pain, my life HAS to go on! I think I'd feel better if I was working even if just a few hours or one day a week. I don't really know what the rules are with SSA though? I read somewhere that I am allowed to earn so much per month without it affecting my benefits. Yet does this count as a 6 month trial period as a return to work if you can only work one day a week for a few hours? I'm single and unmarried and can't afford to mess up my benefits in case the agoraphobia relapses or my health flares. I figured one day a week for a few hours can't really hurt, and I might be able to increase hours as I go. I appreciate any feedback from those of you that have experience with this. Thanks so much! Guest guest
Hi,That is such a great question and glad you asked. If you can and want to as a single mom try applying at Gymboree.I work there very part time. They have been so great during my medical issues. I haveen been able to continue to get my discount on my kids clothes while on medical leave.I even recieved a nice letter from human resources wishing me well on my road to recovery. Because the stores are lmited on hours and soon will be hiring for Christmas time .this might be the ideal time to try to join the company. My shifts are 3 hours. And that seems perfect for me if I dont have any other job and can go home and rest afterwards. Gymboree also owns Janie and Jack and Crazy8 stores. If you need help finding a store let me know. Or if you want a number to contact let me know. I know being a mom and saving money on clothes is great. I also like as an employee you get first dibs on the mark downs. And I just recently was approved for disability so I liek you am very nervous of working too much. But glad to read from Tess you can work limited time. I like you both find I suffer from depression when stuck inside even with my kids. I dread cabin fever every winter. This will be my first winter working. Shall see how it goes. hugs Mina
