Guest guest
It's been 2 yrs since I became disabled with this RA. I received an application for extra help with Medicare premium payments the other day. Today, I got my medicare card and welcome booklet. Now, choosing which plan is next. A is a given, B will cover doctors, C is a " gap " policy, D is drug coverage. Seems to me I want/need them all. Any ideas?
Guest guest
Jeanette, I don't know anything about your health or income, but these things will answer your questions to a large degree. My opinion is that you need parts A for inpatient care, B for outpatient and other services, and D the prescription plan that's been a Godsend for most of us. The 'gap' policy is the one that depends on your 'social' status and health. For the last 20 years, I've not needed to use Part C, so I would be wasting money taking that policy. That's the thing you have to look closely at, how much you'll use it and whether you can afford to pay for that insurance. My wife will start Medicare in October after waiting 2 years because we can't afford the MRI's she needs. Her income is SSD of $250/month. I've been on disability for almost 20 years and can't get a job to pay for her MRI's, so she is suffering extreme pain that doctors refuse to treat properly. For us there has been no question about Part C. We both got our letters a few days ago and qualify for discounted prescription coverage because of our 'personal worth', but that will change a lot when I start collecting my retirement. That ~$250 per month will put us in with the 'rich folks' and take away any benefits we have now. The thing is that we're down more than most, but really better off than many. We can always find someone that's worse off, so we can hold up our heads and smile (through the pain). Guest guest
Thank you Dennis, I believe I will go with all. I qualify for help with premiums anyway. > > > It's been 2 yrs since I became disabled with this RA. I received an > > application for extra help with Medicare premium payments the other > > day.
