For me, the problem is that I agree with so many of their points. Way

back in the mid-90's we were griping about ADA being in bed with

Monsanto, Big Pharma, and fast-food manufacturers. Many of us still are;

only now, the public has an organization outside of our group that's

saying the same thing. So now, all of us are tarred with the same brush.

Let's face it --

" The credentialing arm of the ADA, the Commission on Dietetic

Registration, offers continuing professional courses sponsored by

Coca-Cola. " True.

" The ADA allows pharmaceutical companies to market their controversial

products at ADA events. At the 2007 ADA Food & Nutrition Conference &

Expo, GlaxoKline was allowed to promote their first

over-the-counter diet pill, Alli " -- True. Also true about receiving

payments from Hershey, , etc., etc.

So, a logical progression is to see the push for licensure as ADA's

attempt to monopolize nutrition, and threaten public health. Heck, if

Coke sponsores our CEs, how can I argue against the idea that ADA is NOT

threatening public health? They make my work 100-fold harder, because I

first have to establish my credibility to an increasingly well-informed

public who knows darn well that all foods DON'T fit.

Just my two cents. -ne
