Guest guest
Dear Forum members, Today, we stand at a crossroad. Women are 2.5 times more likely to be HIV infected than their male counterparts (UNAIDS, 2004) and most still must rely on male cooperation to protect themselves from HIV/STIs. 39% of women living in India at the end of 2005 were women (NACO). There has been increased attention to the impact of AIDS on women and girls and it has been brought forth that there is an urgent need for addressing the prevention options for women and girls as the current prevention methods like condoms, fidelity and abstinence may not be feasible for many. One such potential female initiated prevention option is microbicides, currently under research. Microbicides are substances that reduce the transmission of HIV and other STI pathogens when applied vaginally or possibly rectally. In this regard, we would like to invite you to a film screening event scheduled to be held on the 5th of April from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm at the India Habitat Center, New Delhi to recognize the World Health Day. The venue: “Magnolia” India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi- 110003 (entry from Gate Number 3 Vardhaman Marg) The 27 minute long film “In Women’s Hands” developed by the Global Campaign for Microbicides has been launched in over 40 cities around the world. The film captures the dilemmas of women living in a world of HIV/AIDS- women who face the growing risk of HIV with limited options to protect themselves. The personal stories portrayed in this film speak to the need for microbicides, their potential role, the importance of leadership on this issue and provide an inspiration for action. The objectives of this event are to raise awareness around microbicides research and development from a health and rights perspective, to engage the civil society into discussion around microbicides research, development and access and to direct the participants to a range of advocacy tools like fact sheets, film and GC News, website etc. RSVP Aditi Joshi email: aditi@... or Phone : 011-26530080/88 With regards, Paramita Kundu Programme Associate Global Campaign for MIcrobicides PATH, A-9, Qutab Institutional Area New Delhi- 110067 India T: (91-11) 26530080 F:(91-11) 26530089 email: paramita@...
