Question -

Since ADA (soon to be " AND " ) is SPONSORED by MARS Incorporated, outside

of ADA/AND receiving money for this association and sponsorship, how do

we as members benefit from what is thinly veiled as " MARS Healthy

Living? "

Remember, the majority of MARS foods (not their pet foods) are not

fruits, vegetables or health based, but rather high in fats, trans fats

and other non-health promoting materials. See:

http://www.mars.com/global/brands.aspx for their portfolio for food

related companies.

Do you fellow RD's think that this type of relationship of our

professional organization benefits us individually or as a profession?

This issue will always pertain to dollars. Our association membership dues are

very low and we are in essence being subsidized by these industries.

There are arguments on both sides of this but the crux of the issue, I believe,

is the marketability and shelf-life of RD's.

Can we monetize ourselves in our ever changing healthcare arena? To me, this is

a question that isn't being addressed by our Association (whatever their name

is).

Sincerely,
