Guest guest
It is most likely because you are on MTX. When taking MTX it interferes with absorbtion of some things, one of those is folic acid. Enlarged RBC is usually the cause of a folic acid or B12 deficiencies...but can be caused by some liver, thyroid, and GI disorders. Usually people don't know they have this aside from a blood test. Those who have symptoms describe them as flu-like...headache, fatigue, etc. You find the cause and treat it. With MTX, the first thing would be to take increased folate. Having enlarged RBC though is not really a liability, just a symptom of something else. Some say the enlarged RBC may increase cholesterol, but that is up for debate. Guest guest
a, Are you taking folic acid in addition? I am sure because of the MTX you have to do labs every month. This is when they found it. If you read Chris's post it seems to be common and not threating. I have already doubled the folic acid and it should be corrected with ease. I don't believe you need to worry. Just be sure you do your labs and get the results from the office. They failed to call me this month because the lab had not sent the results. Good thing I called to inquire or this would have been missed until next labs. I don't have any personal knowledge as far as the platelet count, butI did some searching. This is what I read... " Mild to moderately elevated platelet counts are commonly seen when chronic inflammation is present. " I read it at http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp? articlekey=79481, if you want to check it out. Still, stay on top of your blood work what ever the results. I sure hope your situtation is common just like mine. Shirley --- In , " patandpaula " <patandpaula@...> wrote: > > Could someone please tell me what test tells you your red blood cells are too big? Guest guest
Hi a Just a PS to my earlier post. has posted further about the mcv which measures the red cell volume and will show on haematology labs. So this is just about your platelet query. Platelets are quite separate from the red cells but are also made in the bone marrow and are essential little cell fragments that help blood to clot as you probably know. The platelet count is often seen to be mildly/ moderately raised in inflammatory arthritis such as RA especially when active or in a flare. This is a natural 'healthy' response of the bone marrow to stress to the body , such as happens in acute infections, and also inflammatory conditions. Falling towards normal of the platelet count may well be an early encouraging sign of calming down in response to DMARDS such as methotrexate, as well as falling seds (ESR) and CRP, so I hope you see it! Guest guest
That is talking about iron overload. The RDV reduces when you get to menopause (just like it increses during pregnancy) but that doesn't mean all iron is harmful... it just means taking large amounts of it daily will eventually cause you to store too much and could possibly cause problems. If you're tired and thinking you need more red blood cells that really isn't going to happen unless you have adequate iron. Have you been tested for iron? Do you already know you have too much? Because if you're looking for more red blood cells due to fatigue that's usually anemia... which could well be a B12 or Folate issue, but could also be low iron. It really helps to get tested to figure out which it is. And heart disease isn't related to high LDL cholesterol, rather, the oxidation level of. And be very, very careful about the " I heard its bad " blanket statements you hear - anything in excess can harm you, including water. That's doesn't mean you should stop drinking it! -Lana " The art of simplicity is a puzzle of complexity. Guest guest
Beats me, just addicted. I've heard that means I have an allergy to them but the taste is satisfying and it fills me like nothing else. But now I'm hungry all the time and since I've just read our latest newsmagazine about things in foods, I see some of it makes you hungry all the time plus fatigue and all the other things. I'm pretty upset to think the coconut oil has something wrong with it. Butter, which doesn't have much wrong makes my legs lumpy. I think the only solution is to somehow make myself eat a lot less so that I can have the nutritious foods without piling up anti-nutrients. Their solution is to eat a very wide variety of foods but that is outside of my budget. So less is better. Need to lose 10 lbs. anyway.
