Dear FORUM,

Uttar Pradesh State Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS- UPNP+ is a

community-based organization of people living with HIV/AIDS in Uttar Pradesh.

The network was formed on 7th March 2005 at Allahabad having its presence in 11

districts of Uttar Pradesh.

The goal of UPNP+ is ‘to create an enabling environment in Uttar Pradesh where

people living with HIV/AIDS can access treatment, care and support without any

stigma and discrimination and also can access their human rights’. At present we

are in contact with 1000 people living with HIV across UP.

HIV positive people are facing stigma and discrimination in Uttar Pradesh which

threatens the society and is detrimental to the prevention and care programs. To

address this and to raise the solidarity of the people of Uttar Pradesh, UPNP+

with the support of UPSACS and other stakeholders have planned to conduct a

Silent Walk. We join hands with INP+, DFID, Engender Health and UPSACS (Health

Ministry) for the same.

Goal: - Increase social acceptance of PLHAs by making society feel that PLHAs

are living normal life like others.
