Guest guest
Dear and Others, We have an excellent chapter on methymalonic acidemia in our book Pediatric Nutrition in Chronic Diseases and Developmental Disorders. It is a block in a step of amino acid catabolism that results in the excretion of abnormally high concentrations of non-amino organic acids. These four amino acids need to be reduced, isoleucine, valine, threonine, and methionine. There are fomulas available without these amino acids. This family needs to be followed by a metabolic pediatrician and dietitian! The book may be found in a medical library, or from me, or Oxford University Press , _www.oup.org/us_ (http://www.oup.org/us) , promotion code 24095. It would be very helpful for all comcerned in handling this problem. It also contains information on normal pediatric nutrition regarding growth charts etc.in Section 1. We also have a very economical self study worth up to 35 ADA credits, for those interested. Hope this helps..Contact me if you have further questions.
