Guest guest
Hi Bud, My husband had a large Baker's cyst behind his knee a few years ago. He chose to do nothing except elevate and rest the leg. Eventually the cyst burst and drained down into his leg and the problem disappeared. Chris. > > Has anyone been diagnosed with a Bakers or Popliteal cyst? What did you > do to relieve the pain? Guest guest
Coincidentially I was just diagnosed with a ruptured Bakers Cyst behind my right knee. I have been having pain there, especially going up stairs. He said the cyst broke and that the fluiid drained down the fluid of the muscles of the leg. He said I was lucky because some people have to have surgery due to an infection hitting in. S,
Guest guest
You know, I actually had baker's cysts behind both knees for much of my childhood. At some point, it seems they were no longer considered a problem, since for some reason, my parents stopped taking me to see the orthopedist about it. Glad you brought this up, I wonder if it's something I should be looking into. -L Kathleen Merillat <kamerillat@...> wrote: Has anyone had a Baker's Cyst. Guest guest
Yes I have one behind each knee. One is fairly large and the other one was only known because I had ultrasound done on them. I previously had synovial chondromitosis which is the overgrowth of the synovium around the knee. The fix is to remove the synovium. Mine was done arthroscopically and it took 6 months to fully regain movement in my knee. The only part they left in was behind the knee which is where I now have the Bakers cyst. My ortho guy said that the only way to get rid of Bakers cyst is to completely remove synovium again. Ouch. I will wait until I have pain in the knee before I subject it too more surgery and even more pain. I just read the other day that when arthritis such as ours attacks the knee they will do a synovectomy. I know that the problem I had previously (and likely has reoccurred) is definitely related to PA or arthritis in general. I was told that because I had the synovial chondromitosis I was a good candidate for arthritis in the knee. Oh....joy....more arthritis. My knees presently sound like fireworks when I stand up. Or maybe closer to Rice Krispies. If you want anymore specifics, email me, I have checked this out quite thoroughly. Dave [ ] Bakers Cyst Has anyone had a Baker's Cyst. Apparently it is significantly linked to those with arthritis? Funny timing, I just went to the dr. for a Baker's Cyst. Mine has come and gone for long time, this is the first its been diagnosed. My practioner told me that they can become painful, but mine has never caused me much of a problem...hope the same is true for you! Beth --------------------------------- Mobile Take with you! Guest guest
Hello, I have had to have several of these Baker's Cysts removed. I get them on my stomache, arms, legs, and have even had them on my breasts. I constantly get them. I was put on antibiotics for three years to help with these pests. They are painful and cause me much greif. I began getting really bad reactions to the antibiotics, so I'm off of them now. I would like to know how we get this stuff! How does this have anything to do with PA? Amy
Guest guest
I worked in surgery for 12 years. I have been involved in cases where people had Bakers cysts removed. Most orthopedists don't even worry about them anymore. It is a cyst that develops when joint fluid creates a cyst in the back of the knee through a natural opening where the popliteal tendon passes. The only reason to have one removed is if it is causing pain. > Has anyone had a Baker's Cyst. Apparently it is significantly linked to those with arthritis? Guest guest
Hi does anyone have trouble with Bakers cysts or paiin behind their knees?
Guest guest
I had my Baker's Cyst removed back in 1999. It had grown so large (large lemon) that it was impairing my ability to break my car. My knee would get " stuck " and couldn't move because of it. The ortho tried a few times to extract the fluid but it was extremely viscous. It did not cause me great pain, just immobility. Some of these cysts can rupture causing much pain in the calf. Obviously, if you have a cyst, try to get the fluid extracted. If extraction does not work, and you are in pain or immobile, the surgery isn't bad. I had no post-op pain from it and it is a fairly substantial scar. Guest guest
My husband gets cysts all over his body. the Dr. said this is linked somehow to the RA. He had a baker's cyst behind his knee several years ago and eventually it caused so much pain that he had to have it removed. Since then he's had very little if any trouble with his knees.
