Guest guest
, I do not tell. I will give you this piece of advise. If you have a vocational rehab office locally I would check out their services. They will help you find a job. Most of these jobs are government contract jobs with full benefits. These are jobs that are set asside specifically for people with disabilities. When they complete your package and start sending you out for interviews, the employer already knows what they are getting and what accommodations you need. I am at the point in the process myself where I am filling out applications for jobs. I have a temp job now. They have been great about accommodating me and I really like the job. My hope is that this job will turn into permenent. Its 6 mins from my house by car..and I work 4.5 days a week. Its really nice. The job I am being sent out on pays $1.71 more an hour but would require shift type work. and a 30 min commute due to traffic. I have no details on benefits. We shall see though...My temp job does not end until September 26th and next month I can start applying for permenent positions. Guest guest
HI I am no longer working due to RA, Fibro, IC and a host of other things. I can tell you that I feel so much better since I am able to nap in the morning if needed as well as a nice afternoon nap. You might want to look for something part time. I would be upfront with them as to why you are seeking part time or if you still want full time, its always considered appropriate to let them know in advanc that you may have to go to a Dr monthly. That way when you do go they can't say that they were not told the truth. Thats just my opinion. Heidi M On Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 2:49 PM, <aclavern33@...> wrote: > , > I do not tell. Guest guest
Hello group, I just felt the need to jump in this conversation because it hit so close to home. I was diagnosed a couple months ago with RA. I'm sure I've had it longer because I've had complications for a few years. I'm the type of person to let things go without going to doctors until I can't take it anymore. (the stubborn type) When it got to the point where the pain in my shoulder was so bad one day I was crying and I couldn't lift my arm to put my hair up for work which was mandatory and I had to go to the neighbors so she could put my hair up. That is when I broke down and made doctor appt. That is when I was diagnosed with RA. I'm the kind of person that don't like calling in sick from work. I've been practically crawling into work feeling like I'm going to pass out any minute because of the exhaustion and the pain. I work in a kitchen. Lately the pain has been in my feet, toes, ankles, knees, wrists, fingers, right shoulder and my neck. I'm unable to move my neck without screaming right now. But I work like this and one handed. I'll get to the point.... What is considered unable to work? I make it there but feel like I'm dying the whole time! Bye the way, it is nice meeting you all. There is so much that is talked about on this list that I can relate to! I'm usually a lurker but this thread pulled me out of lurkdom! Is there anyone in Michigan? Guest guest
I was working in a service deli at HEB. Yes, I probably could have worked longer, but the pain was excruciating. Like you, I had to ask for help (from my husband) to put my hair back. Yeah, right. I did as much as I could, but then I had to ask for help puting chickens on skewers, and help rewraping the deli meats and cheese. I felt that everybody was doing my job and I was not doing anything but saying hello! I did not think I deserved to get paid for that so I quit. BTW, my SSD went through immediately not because of Houston, TX public health, but because my dr in IL was 100% on my side & had very strong documentation. > > Hello group, > > I just felt the need to jump in this conversation because it hit so close to > home.
