Could it be psoriasis? That's how my psoriatic arthritis started

Hi to all.

I have RA - mostly mild symptoms and just one flare a year ago. (I

know - I'm very lucky - or blessed!) Now I'm concerned about my

husband. For 3 weeks he's been dealing with something. Started with

a rash all over his body - head to toes! Then he developed swelling

in his hands, knees, and elbows. THEN - still broken out and still

swollen - his joints started hurting really bad. We've had 2 trips

to the emergency room and he's seen his PCP twice. This doctor did

blood work but only a blood count. Said it was probably an allergic

reaction to something. (Big help!) BTW - my hubby is 66 years old,

still works full-time, fairly good health.

This doesn't sound like exactly like a flare from what I've read in

this group (no fever, no response to Prednisone) but I don't know

what else it could be. Did some research on the net and wonder about

parvo virus. Has anyone here had similar symptoms that turned out to

be RA or some other related problem?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Roselyn,

I am very sorry about your hubby, I would be concerned too. There is a

psoriatic arthritis, but I don't know too much about it. I know you do

have a rash with it. I'm sure someone will post, and give you some

information, and our moderator will find some great info for you. Keep

us posted, and hope you stay awhile. Tawny

Roselyn,

I'm so sorry to hear about both you and your husbands medical

conditions. Even though I don't have any answers/suggestions for

you, I just wanted you to know that I'll be praying for you both. I

truly hope you can find a diagnosis/treatment that will help.

Be strong,

Roselyn,

Welcome to the group. I don't have any experience with what you

described with your husband. We have quite a diverse group here so

maybe you will get some good information

I hope everything turns out OK.

Thanks, Shirley, and all the others who responded. My husband saw

two doctors today, and the internist had bloodwork done to test for

RA. He also gave him a prescription for a Medrol dose-pack. The

other doc gave him one for a strong diuretic in case the steroid

causes more swelling. Bless his heart, when he go home he was having

chills - temp almost 101. I got his prescriptions filled and made

him take the steroid.

Hoping and praying for a better day tomorrow. One funny note... I

always have to get his help opening jars & bottles because my hands

hurt sometimes. This evening I had to open a bottle water as well as

the medicines for HIM!

Thanks again for the answers and encouragement.

Roselyn,

Those damned bottles! I hate opening bottles and now Coke has put

those little bottle caps on their products. I struggle getting them

off and putting them back on.

My prayers are with both of you.

Thanks to all who responded a couple of weeks ago. We finally have

some blood work results.

RA factor - 14.4

ANA 15 (OK)

Sed rate - 32

C-Reactive protein - 96.3 (very high)

So it's going to be trips for two to the Rheumy!

Wish us luck,

Hi Roselyn. I'm sorry to see all of the positive results on your

hubby's bloodwork and that you both apparently suffer from the same

disease. The only good consolation out of all of this is at least you

now know the reason behind hubby's symptoms. Maybe you can schedule

your Rheumy appointment for the same day and time. Make a " date " out

of it - go to lunch or dinner afterwards. Try to turn all of this into

a positive in some way. My prayers are with you both.....Doreen :)
