Guest guest
I have peripheral neuropathy in my right leg. It started a little over 2 ½ years ago. I take Neurontin for it and was also prescribed pain meds. The nerve test you are going to get is a b*tch……there’s 2 parts (I’ve had the test 3 times) – one part consists of needles being stuck into the leg/arm or whatever that are hooked up to a machine and they measure the nerve impulses. The other part is being zapped by what I call a mini-cattle prod!! I cried the first 2 times I had the test. It does hurt, but it’s not awful. It doesn’t take all that long so it’s over with fairly quickly. After almost 2 years, my neurologist said I had about an 80% improvement and he thought this is as good as it will get. But considering I was using a walker when it first started and now, I walk unassisted, I am happy to be at this point. I will never be truly well, but it beats using a walker or a cane. I also have RA. If you have any other questions, please let me know. Guest guest
Then you know what to expect!! I don’t recall the test taking an hour. The zaps are very short and I guess it depends on how long it takes the doctor or technician to deal with the equipment. Good luck! _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of mary irvine Sent: Monday, July 21, 2008 1:23 PM Subject: RE: [ ] hey alll i went ot the neuroligist this morning wow! i had a nerve test done on my other arm where i have bad nerve damage doen and my doctor then toild me i might have a 50/50 chance if i had surgery done on it, the nuero today said it will take an hour to do the test i know the first time i had the nerve test done it hurt so bad i did cry i am worried about the right hand and arm i am having it done it sounds painful! Guest guest
For me, the worst part was when the technician couldn't get a " good " reading (because I have nerve damage) and I kept getting shocked again and again until he finally concluded that I really had nerve damage! The needles weren't so bad for me as many of the areas were already numbed due to the damage. I have a high tolerance for pain, but when the technician stuck the needles in the back of my neck, I almost gave way to tears. With that said, I have had the test done 3 times as well, on my arms and legs (including neck and back). It's never taken a whole hour, but if I included filling out the paperwork, and talking to the dr., yes it does occupy a whole hour. I would have no problem having it done again as I don't think it hurts too bad. Dorothy <dorv@...> wrote: Then you know what to expect!! I don’t recall the test taking an hour.
