Guest guest
How are you doing, Tevyen! I was wonder if you know how Hydroxyurea works to halt tumor growth?? I've never heard of this drug until just recently when you spoke of it. Would you know how successful this drug is at halting tumor growth? Does it have more success at stopping some types of tumors over others? Let's say when compared with Schwanomas to Meningeomas (sp?). Also, does it work better at slowing the growth of brain tumors as opposed to spinal tumors? Does it discriminate in this way? Just curious-- Greg Hi Lori and best of luck to you on your Hydroxyurea treatment and I have been taking it 3 years and there has been no Further growth in that type frame .Hopefully its the effect of the drug and not that it isnt slow growing .Keep me informed how your treamtnet is going . Guest guest
Hi Lori and I take 1000MG of hydroxurea which is two capsules in the morning with my breakfast everyday .I drink as much water as possible daily to be able to clean my kidnies as fast as possible .I was told to drink alot of water which I do ever since I started the drug 3 years ago . Good luck with your treatment Lori and I hope your tumors at least remain stable .Also Lori let me say that hydroxyurea is a cytotoxic agent and it is not risk free but as most of the cytotoxic agents go it is relatively mild and ill tell you what i read today in clincial Neurosurgery volume 46 The cytotoxic agent ,Hydroxyuea, has recived growing attention in the treatment of unrestable and recurrant meningiomas.Preliminaryreports indicatethe stabilization of symptomsin most patients with benign meningiomas.Specificallyin 14 patients with benign meningiomas13 experienced stable clinical and randographic responses.Longer evaluations of a larger treatment group is needed. This was in an article written by Dr Tew a neurosurgeon in Cinncinati Ohio in 1998.Now I dont know what the latest evaluations show but let me tell you a large portion of the tumors that people with nf2 get are types of meningiomas of the brain and spine so I think its woth a try .BE in touch with you ,Tev ie.There is no guarantee though but it sounds like a good try at this time .
