Hi Tim Sorry I messed that one up. But I did find a link that had

some good neck exercises. Just remember to tell them to take it

slowly and not overdo on them. When I did PT on my neck and back at

first they only had me do just a few at a time. if you overdo it can

cause you more pain. PLUS they need to know exactly what the PT

wants them to do. I'd hate for them to feel worse from doing any of

these. I will add the link here too so its easy for you to find. My

neck pain is pretty much gone since my fusion, that was a great

success. But I still have to be careful and not pull or lift

anything too heavy, my neck just won't take it without hurting, so I

am careful still with it. I WISH my back surgery had gone so well

but it didn't. And the CAT Scan showed I had marked stenosis at L5

S1 so guess I am in the same boat as your dad. The drs all have been

surprised I have had such bad problems since these usually are found

in older people and they say I am too young to have all these kind

of problems. Oh one thing I forgot to mention I found it real

helpful after I did my exercises

to put moist heat on my neck, that kept it from being too sore

later on. Hope some of this helps your folks. Will try and get the

other ones I have scanned asap Sharon Group Owner

Hi Sharon,

Those are great exercises. I am sorry to hear of your back

problems. What kind of moist heat do you use? We have a corn bag that

seems to work good.

and group

Well good morning,,,,,You must have moved South.....When I moved to

South Carolina from Cleveland Ohio,,,,,The people called me a damn

yankee here.....Your a Yankee till you move here than your a Damn

Yankee haaaaaaaaaaaa...

Neck exercises,,,,Take your head and lean it over to your shoulder

and count to 20...Do it gently not till it hurts,,,,Than do the next

side....I just do circles with my neck....If you here it popping

than its working is what I heard....Would the person that told me

about the neck exercises let me know who you are..... thanks

Making due is what we do,,, seems like with disability

pay....Keeping fruits and veggies is hard when you get so little

every month....I love watermelon and melons....Peaches are great to

when they are so juicy it runs down your mouth

haaaaaaaaaaa...Praying for everyone to have pain free days.

gentle kind hugs

am a misplaced " Dam Stubborn Yankee " originally from Massachusetts.

I would be very interested in the neck exercises that you mentioned.

At this point, I am willing to try just about anything. I am on

disability, so I know all too well about the financial struggle, but

I make due.

Silly Clora, it was me who told you about the neck exercises. I don't

recommend the circles like you said you are doing. The point is to

s-l-o-w-l-y stretch your neck muscles while maintaining proper posture.

Sit up straight and lay your head over to one side as if you are going

to touch your ear to your shoulder. Keep your back straight and your

shoulders square. Hold it for a count of 10 and then return your head

back to the upright position before repeating on the other side - then

back - then front. Gradually work up to 20 or 30 seconds as tolerated.

You don't want to do this fast or to force your head in any way -

this should NOT be painful. The point of these exercises is to keep

your tendons, muscles and ligaments moving freely.

If anyone would like to email me, I can forward you a copy of the

sheets that came from my Physical Therapist. They're not hard and it

really does make a difference in keeping your neck limber and not so

stiff...............Doreen :)
