A yankee is some one who lives in Florida for a short period of time.

A damned yankee is one who moves to my state of Florida and never

leaves...

Them's fighting words in our house. Rod was born in NYC. :)

Seriously though, he gets really offended if people call him that unless it's

obvious they're joking.

Why would they be " fighting words " ?

As long as NYers remain in NY, all is well in Florida. :)

Hi Pat - yeah, I'm guilty as charged. I moved to Florida in 1973,

left in 1982, came back in 1989 and haven't left since. So, I guess

that makes me a Damned Yankee **LOL**........Doreen :)

**LOL** Dodge - I'm originally from Vermont, so I know what you mean.

Although, having been a transplant here in Florida for so many years,

I just let it roll off my shoulders now. I don't take anyone

seriously if I don't have to..........Doreen :)

LOL...my good old Tennessee, Southern Baptist, no-cussin' grandmas did

not consider that to be a swear word. Of course you're talking about

one generation after the Civil war. and they said it in one

word... " damyankees. " What's funny is, I doubt if either one of them

ever met anyone from outside Tennessee or Mississippi at the

farthest...until they met my Texan daddy!

My mom is from the Pensacola area but married an Ohioan and moved back

with him to there. But whenever we visited Florida, my mom's relatives

would still refer to us as damyankees even though we never moved back

there. When I was little I thought yankee was a bad term so would keep

denying that I was one.

locals that was from the civil war and it don't count anymore....OMG

not according to the locals haaaaaaaaaaa.

I said yankess was actually Britts from the UK.. They wouldnt hear

of that either... So I looked it up... Sure enough I am a damn

Clora,

Just so that you know....I am southern born and bred. Until I was 43

I had never lived more that 7 miles from the hospital that I was

born in. I now live a whole 56 miles from it. I am progressing.

I have met and known many WONDERFUL people from the north. Of course

they loved the south too. The only person that I have ever referred

to as a damn yankee was my aunts husband. If he had not been from up

yonder, I would have found some other negative sounding adjective to

describe him. He could be a real pain! That was him and not where he

was from.

Just so you know,,, I am a true blue HILLBILLY born and bred in the

mountains of Oak Hill West Virginia haaaaaaaaaaa. WE was the split

between the north and the south. Actually I grew up in Cleveland

OHio where my dad found work and was able to get out of the west

virginny coal mines....I love lake erie and miss clevland so bad we

may move back so my husband can find work.

Have you heard the stock market had a great fall as much as 700

points or what ever it's called. My husband Cliff is filling out a

job application for Security Gaurd... We live in a hick town close

to the border of North Carolina. Nothing for work in the paper

except for college graduates. Not even temp jobs.

ONly problem my brother in the North says people are losing homes

all over the plase....North or South damn yankees and rebels need to

work it our so we can go to work haaaaaaaaaaaaa. God bless and take

care hoping for pain free days for everyone.

Just having fun with every one.... Laughter is the best medicine.

Yes Shirley I have made some wonderful friends here in the South...

I really didnt know there was yankees for real until I moved here

from the north... My new friends would tease me about being a

yankee. I tell them I am a hillbilly.. Yep I admit I am a Yankee now

heehee...

My grandfather was a moonshiner in the holler where my mom grew

up... She said he didnt have moon shine runs like the tv said.. She

told me they would come to their holler and get it... THe magestrate

would come by too and buy his moonshine. So would very important

people in the government would come also...That was during the

proabition...Grandpa was never botherd about his steels...Hmmm I

think that was in the 30s...I don't know how this came up but I get

tickled when it comes up. Our family came from Ireland..They was

pushed in the mountains to steel their brew haaaaaaaaa.

gentle hugs
