Guest guest
I have fibro and RA and had been having a lot of trouble walking and standing up straight especially in the mornings or when it rained or was real humid.Ive been under a lot of extra stress lately(my dad who lives with me has cancer and had to have a pacemaker recently) so the pain & stiffness in my hands, feet, ankles, neck, lower back all was worse than usual and I asked my pain doc to give me a dose pack of prednisone for the inflammation in my joints and muscles, and it has helped a lot,as has been true in the past also.I havent taken it in a long while and wanted to ask others here who might have taken that how long the steroids helped them or when I might expect the problems with the stiffness and pain in my joints to come back.My neurologist had given it to me in the past for migraines and the inflammation and pain I had after a car accident and it had help me so I asked for it again when I was having so much trouble walking that I had to buy a cane.It has helped a lot and I can walk without the cane most of the time now except in the morning when I first wake up. Guest guest
I do not go on steroids often because I fear the future. That said....When take the dose pack relief is within a day. I love it. I can walk better, move better etc.... With all your stresses I would start immediately. Good luck.... Guest guest
, I am sorry to hear about your dad. I hope the doctors are taking good care of him. As far as the stiffness in the mornings, everyone I know or have ever known with OA or RA goes through this because of the immobility during the night. The old folks here in the South would say that they were " stove up " . Humidity, barometric pressure and temperature also effect arthritis. I do think your elevated pain is in a large part due to your stress. Stress increases anything negative that my body is feeling. I have experienced the positive side of steroids lasting for months with the OA in my lumbar spine. I hope you have a long period of relief from them also. Guest guest
I have been on and off Prednisone a number of times. Sometimes the relief lasts for a while..meaning a matter of a couple of months. My rheumatologist said that they hope to " shock " your system sometimes with the high dose & hope that it will continue. It works so well for me and so many others, it's such a shame that we can't take it long term. Good luck - I hope that you are lucky and remain pain-free for a long time :-) Dorothy _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Sent: Monday, September 29, 2008 9:31 PM Subject: [ ] how long does dosepack of prednisone work for pain/stiffness I have fibro and RA and had been having a lot of trouble walking and standing up straight especially in the mornings or when it rained or was real humid.Ive been under a lot of extra stress lately(my dad who lives with me has cancer and had to have a pacemaker recently) so the pain & stiffness in my hands, feet, ankles, neck, lower back all was worse than usual and I asked my pain doc to give me a dose pack of prednisone for the inflammation in my joints and muscles, and it has helped a lot,as has been true in the past also.I havent taken it in a long while and wanted to ask others here who might have taken that how long the steroids helped them or when I might expect the problems with the stiffness and pain in my joints to come back.My neurologist had given it to me in the past for migraines and the inflammation and pain I had after a car accident and it had help me so I asked for it again when I was having so much trouble walking that I had to buy a cane.It has helped a lot and I can walk without the cane most of the time now except in the morning when I first wake up.
