Most studies are centered on oxidative stress, with research focused on the following three areas: 1) Nutraceuticals and dietary supplements to improve health, performance, and associated biomarkers; 2) Production of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species and associated biomarkers after acute stress (both feeding-induced and exercise-induced); 3) Nutrient interventions (e.g., dietary restriction) to improve risk factors for metabolic and cardiovascular disease. The University of Memphis, a Tennessee Board of Regents institution, is recognized by the Carnegie Foundation as one of two public research universities and the only community engaged public university in Tennessee. It has six colleges and four professional schools serving a diverse population of about 23,000 students, 5,000 of whom are enrolled in graduate programs.
