> Dana-

I agree with you, as an ex-competetive swimmer and a water lover-

swimming is such great exercise- and certainly most of the prg books

highly recommend it--it is much easier on all your joints, and you

get a good rounded workout on all the muscle groups (also good cardio-

wise) my Dr did not want me to exercise at all-(I asked about

swimming and yoga) after 14 weeks- not even walks- (I can walk to the

mailbox, or in a mall shopping, but no exercise walking) it really

depends on your drs- some say its ok-

I also used to teach swimming lessons, and had some very young babies-

you aren't really teaching them to swim, you are more trying to get

them comfortable with the water, the younger the better- they will

inately hold their breath when dunked under- and you can help by

blowing air in their face first----

I plan on swimming again as soon as the baby is born, (we have a pool

at our house) also getting the baby in soon too--- which in Atlanta

in July will be where we will want to be anyhow-----

as far as the chemicals----it should be fine----as long as your

cervix is closed tight-there should be no way for anything to get

into the uterus (same with baths) you also have a mucous plug that

is protecting your precious cargo- they do say not to swim or take

baths close to your due date, as you may not notice your water

breaking- also they say not to take hot tubs, or really hot baths-

when your time comes, you will probably read the thousands of books

out there on prg- " What to expect when you're expecting " is a pretty

good overview of all the questions you may have, I bought a copy

before we conceived- also your Dr should be very open to questions

too!

happy swimming!
