Guest guest
>>>ELAINE WROTE>>>Pass up that one night of eating out...after you weigh-in on meeting day...oops...did I step on any toes???Please forgive me...remember..I'm on a Retreat HIGH here...LOL...Love you all and hope you still love me...it's just that I want everyone of you to have this wonderful feeling as well!!! Oouch!! Elaine, get off my toes! LOL!! Just kidding... surely you weren't talking about me?!..... Nah, you couldn't be because I don't just have "one night of eating out", I have an ENTIRE free day! But you know what... for me it works. It keeps me from feeling like I'm having to 'do without' forever. If there is something that I want during the week, but it doesn't fit into my daily calorie plan, then I just tell myself that I'll get to have it on my free day. I had to do this with chocolate when I first started TOPS in 2002. I used to have to have chocolate EVERY day. I think that I must've finally weaned myself off of it though.... I seldom even eat it on my free day, since I no longer crave it. For me, "free day" doesn't mean 'hog-wild-free-for-all". I usually plan what I'm going to eat on my free day. Sometimes it might be Chinese food, Mexican food, etc. Sometimes its as little as having a huge salad and not stressing, or feeling guilty about eating regular ranch dressing and having shredded cheese on it. For me, it works because if I totally gave up everything that isn't low-cal, low fat, etc., I would probably get to the point where I'd want to eat the house... which would really be a pain because my Food Counts Calorie Guide doesn't list the nutrition info for dry dry wall, lumber, bricks, etc. and I'm pretty anal about keeping track of my daily food intake! The important thing is making sure that a "free day" doesn't turn into two or three days. Eating off plan for a day hasn't hurt me thus far, since I don't feel deprived. I'm loving "Elaine on retreat HIGH"!!! Keep throwing that positive energy and inspiration our way!! Guest guest
That is a great plan Janet...it use to work for me too but then the one free day starting turning into another...then another...and before I knew it...I was doing the whole week that way... And basically now...for me...I am having to start all over again...thank the Good Lord above..I never got back to my original starting weight with TOPS which was 346.50 lbs...but I did go as high as 316...which is what I weighed when we started our new Poteet chapter in July....but today...DRUM ROLL PLEASE...I KLUNKED...I am finally below 300 again!!! That was an awesome feeling!!! So for me...right now...I am going to stop the free days while I feeling this way...I am so pumped up!!! I did go out and eat charbroiled grilled shrimp at Sea Island but I did not eat the whole portion. I saved half to enjoy for Dinner that evening and I haven't felt deprived yet. But that is not to say I won't at some later time...which I will cross that bridge when I come to it! Thanks for sharing, Elaine Re: Ouch! Guest guest
I'm so happy to hear about your free day Janet. A very few TOPS members share our mentality about free days because I too have a free day on Thursday. Actually mine is just a free dinner. Mom and I usually go to Chili's after our meeting and we eat what we want and don't worry about the calories or fat. We just both start fresh on Friday. She never turns it into 2 or 3 free days. I do sometimes yes but not all the time. Having a free day each week REALLY helps me. I save all my cravings for that day. It does work for me and mom and you I see but it doesn't work for everyone. I'm glad we have that in common! Our TOPS meeting gets over at 8:30 so by the time we find a restaurant it would be 9 so we usually just go to Chili's every Thursday because every other place is either closed or closing early and we like to sit and talk for awhile. It we got out earlier I would so do the Chinese thing because I love Chinese! NOW you got me looking forward to dinner Thursday. Thanks a lot! LOL! I hope you all have a great week!YOUR TOPS PAL, -----Original Message-----From: Hamilton & Feeser Sent: Monday, September 20, 2004 10:54 PMTo: TexasTOPS Subject: Re: Ouch! Guest guest
Like I said....a free day works for some people (mom, Janet, and I) but not for other (Elaine) so good choice on cutting the free day out all together. You do eat in moderation every day though right? Then you can enjoy good foods....just not as much of those good foods. That's what I live by. My only problem this last 2 years has been exercise. I've been lazy. What can I say? I will get back on track. I do plan on doing my walking tape again tonight so hopefully that will help. It's a start right? -----Original Message-----From: K.Elaine Luce Sent: Tuesday, September 21, 2004 9:50 AMTo: TexasTOPS Subject: Re: Ouch! LOL. LOL. Guest guest
I am working the exchanges (1200 calories per day) like we were taught at retreat. It has been plenty enough food for me. I am taking one day at a time working this program. It is my choice for today that I abstain from taking my free days after weigh in. I am building my strength one day at a time. This is my choice for today. I know I will reach some place in time that I will be tempted to indulge but I will cross that bridge when I get to it. I know you will get back on track , I have all confidence in you! It just takes determination and True Grit...hey...isn't that a movie title??? LOL!!! TOPS Love, Elaine Re: Ouch! I used to have determination and true Grit (never heard of it if it's a movie LOL) but I have lost it. I want to find it again. I lost between 2.5 - 4 lbs. each week for 27 weeks in a row. Why can't I do that again? What went wrong? I blame it on my job because we sit for 8 hours a day. I know it's ME who eats and doesn't get exercise but it was soooo much easier when I had an active job working at Sears and Kroger. Oh well. Can't complain. Love my job and make good money. Just have to make some time to exercise each day. Did well this week. 6 miles. That's good for me and that's a start!"

Guest guest
Oh did I ever show my age with the "True Grit" movie....It was one of Wayne's later movies...Do you know who Wayne is? hehehe! I think it was in the late 60's early 70's maybe.. Oh well "True Grit" is something we need to get back to having, so we can do what we know is the right thing to do...I guess True Grit is kin to Will Power... I wish I could pin point exactly where I threw my good sense to the wind and said who cares... what makes us give up on ourselves like that??? Who knows...but we just have to keep on keeping on and trying to find the answers...I know you will ...I can remember the first time I saw you, I thought, what a strikingly good looking young man you are and still are!!! I really admired you for taking charge of your life at such an early age, and getting control over your weight! And if I remember right, you said a few weeks ago you were only 20 pounds from goal...so get moving ! You are on the right track about getting back to your exercise...it will make you feel so much better! Take care, Elaine RE: Ouch! LOL. Guest guest
Hi Elaine and thanks! I appreciate your kind words. I wish us both good luck. I am 19.25 lbs. from goal but I'm excited because I will have a loss tonight and will be less than that come tomorrow. And, yes, I have heard for Wayne but NEVER saw any of his movies. Sorry! LOL! I know it's ME who eats and doesn't get exercise but it was soooo much easier when I had an active job working at Sears and Kroger. Oh well. Can't complain. Love my job and make good money. Just have to make some time to exercise each day. Did well this week. 6 miles. That's good for me and that's a start!" EMAIL TEXAS-STYLE!! EMAIL TEXAS-STYLE!!
Sorry! LOL! Take care! GEORGE: ) -----Original Message-----From: K.Elaine Luce Sent: Wednesday, September 22, 2004 11:09 PMTo: TexasTOPS Subject: Re: Ouch! LOL. LOL.
