Guest guest
As one of my first rheums said, " you have to live your life. " With time, I got more comfortable with managing the risk of infection while taking Enbrel. Once you get over a few colds, have trips to the dentist, be around sick people etc and end up ok, it builds your confidence. I have worked in hospitals, been around injured patients, have small children who go to preschool, had a baby etc, all while on Enbrel and have really done well. One thing I like about Enbrel, is if you're worried about a budding cold, you just wait a day or to before your next dose. I like that I can sort of " tailor " the immune suppression. HTH, Kate F [ ] Immune System and Enbrel To all of us on Enbrel: How careful do we have to be with our Immune System being more vulnerable? The first thing on the patient information says " people have died from serious infection. " But in reality...what steps do we have to take, to make sure we don't get that " serious infection. " I am in job search mode right now, and find myself reconsidering a lot or prosepects because I don't want to be in contact with a whole lot of people, or children or seniors or animals etc. I asked my brother to please not bring anyone over to my house that is sick, and especially, not his friend that had just returned from Cambodia, until he was checked out. My brother called me a hypochondriac and had that particular friend over the next day! Am I overreacting? Seriously, I am just trying to be careful. Also....can we still eat Sushi? I love sushi, but if my immune system is not as strong as it was, can I still eat it? I love the difference Enbrel has made just in this short time, but I find myself thinking of all the limitations I have now that I am taking it. But at the same time....it has opened up other aspects of my life....like the ability to exercise! Am I looking into it too much? Help! I am feeling confused, and a little upset. -
Guest guest
I have noticed that since I have been on Enbrel I have had pain throughout my mouth. It feels as if I have one giant toothache. It seems to happen in the evening. I have no cavities and have been to the dentist. But other than that I feel much better, and can walk again. Guest guest
Hey . I do not know anything about that medicine but it sounds like your brother was being a big jerk! Obviously he doesn't realize the seriousness of this illness and the meds involved. I think he gets the insensitive lout of the day award. Hope I wasn't too harsh. wendy > I asked my brother to please not bring anyone over to my house that is > sick, and especially, not his friend that had just returned from > Cambodia, until he was checked out. Guest guest
I am so glad this discussion was started.. My doctor put me on Enbrel today, I was on Hydroxychloroquin, Sulfasalazine, and mtx. injections. It wasn't helping much, my blood tests were not improving. So my rhumy is keeping me on mtx injections once a week, taking me off the other two, and putting me on Enbrel. I would like to know what effects this has had on those of you on it, is it rare to get really sick on it? I am reading about it right now on " Enbrel.com " and it says you can get TB with it. I'm a bit nervous, though my Rheumatologist says it works really well and he thinks I will feel like a whole new woman on it! ... But I am still scared. I'm really looking forward to reading the responses. Thanks again, > > I have noticed that since I have been on Enbrel I have had pain throughout my mouth. It feels as if I have one giant toothache. Guest guest
When I was in chemo and radiation last year I couldn't be around two of my grandkids because of the chance of catching something. That was the worst thing about the whole process. All of my kids totally understood the situation. Jere
Guest guest
, I really really do feel like a whole new women. I feel like I got got my body back... and I just started it, so I am looking forward to feeling even better. Yesterday it felt like I had lost 80 lbs. It doesn't hurt to walk up my stairs anymore, and I am not stiff in the AM. At first I thought it was a placebo effect...but more and more I am realizing it is the meds working. My wedding ring keeps turning beause my hands aren't even swollen! I can only hope that everyone has the same results as I have had so far. I am scared too, that is why I started this topic. We'll see what people say about it. So far the only side effects are a little tummy ache (I take Ginger for it and it helps), a bit a of loose stools, and a sort of sleepy feeling (not fatigue), my tiredness is different now. Best wishes to ALL. Yay! - --- In , " brendabennion " <bennion8@...> wrote: > > > > I am so glad this discussion was started.. Guest guest
, I've been on Enbrel for over five years, and haven't had a serious infection during that time. I've had a few colds and stomach viruses, but that's all. I realize that I've been very lucky in that respect. All of us are different. I do try to take care of myself and eat right. I also take a multi-vitamin, plus extra C, E, B, and calcium with D. I'm not around kids a lot, just my grandkids when I get a chance. I am around seniors, since I am one, LOL. I don't eat Sushi, anyway, so don't have to worry about that.
