Guest guest
Hi, This is my first year on Enbrel. I'm confused as to whether or not I should get the flu shot. I want to get it and I think I should. Last year I had a cold/flu the wouldn't leave me for months, which hadn't happened for years. I have a call into my rheumy. Feedback anyone? Heidi in Mass. My rheummy insisted that I received both last year and will get the flu shot for this season when I see her again at the end of this month. 2007 was my first pneumonia shot and from what I understand, I won't need a booster until age 65. I was diagnoised in 2007 with RA. Guest guest
I get the flu shot each year so I won't get a bad flu without it. If I do get the flu my calcium drops too far down so I end up in the hospital. About 5 years ago I also got the pneumonia shot. Guest guest
Group; Hey I just started biologic are we not suppose to get flue shots. I already had a pneumonia shot a couple years ago.. I will ask my primary first because I don't know if you can get the flue shot while taking biologics. Hmmm does it matter.. Curious???? > > I usually do not, but because I am new to this region and have an already > weakened immune system, I have an appointment next week. Guest guest
Clora, I asked my rheummy about that. The flu and pneumonia vaccines are not live viruses and is OK for us to take. Guest guest
I'm on Enbrel, and I get a flu shot every year. In fact, my rheumy pretty much insists. Today was my appointment with him, and I got the works: the flu shot in my left arm, a tetanus shot in my right arm, and blood drawn from my right arm. Then I went to the imaging center a couple of blocks away and had x-rays done of my lumbar spine. I hope that it will tell why I keep having this low back pain. Last week I smashed my hand on a door frame, trying to close the door on an old one-room school building. Almost instantly, it developed a little goose egg and the entire top of my hand has been all shades of red, blue, and purple ever since. There's only a small scratch on the outside, but I must have punctured a vein or artery. That's when I tried to remember when I'd had a tetanus shot, and could not remember. It had probably been at least 20 years. The fact that we're on immuno-suppressants is even more reason to get a flu shot. The pneumonia shot is supposed to last five years. Guest guest
Hi Diane - I didn't used to get either. I was somehow convinced that they either didn't work or could make one sick. Since I was diagnosed with RA and then had pneumonia for the second time in my life, I've had BOTH vaccines. I'd rather be safe than sorry. I've already checked into getting my flu shot for this year - they are being given at my pharmacy.........Doreen --- In , " diane crawford " <nuttynurse25@...> wrote: > > I just wanted to see who gets the vaccines..I know there has been > posts and research articles..I just wanted a general consenses..diane >
Guest guest
Sue, I'm so sorry about your hand. I'll be waiting to hear about your x-ray results. You've been dealing with that pain for a long time. Not an MD On Mon, Oct 6, 2008 at 7:22 PM, Sue <marysue@...> wrote: > I'm on Enbrel, and I get a flu shot every year. Guest guest
I get the flu shot every year, but I also have asthma, so I need it. I'll get mine this Friday. I've gotten the pneumonis shot a few years ago, and I think I don't need it for a few more years. Darcy
