Hi Doreen,

From what I was told, taking antibiotics while taking MTX will enhance the side

effects of the MTX. At least, that is what I understand. I may be mistaken.

And I think it also makes the medication less effective.

Hi Phyllis - from my own experience and research, I know that if strep

throat goes untreated, it can turn into Rheumatic Fever and even cause

death. I would be curious to know if by continuing the MTX and Enbrel

while on antibiotics, does that make the antibiotic less effective or

not work at all? Please be careful - Strep throat is not something to

mess around with.....Doreen

Wow Shirley, how scary. I can't even begin to imagine what that must have been

like for you all. How is your son now?

Phyllis,

Strep is not only painful but like Doreen said, it can be very

dangerous.

Not every strain of strep though. My son had strep when he was 10

and developed Bright's Disease. That is when it goes to the kidneys

instead of the heart. He was at the point of total renal failure and

started passing out on me. He was embarrased to tell us that his

urine was red and then brown.

After 18 days in the hospital, he had 5 months of total rest, no

school and could not play. What a long 5 months. The scary part is

that it could come back and he would most likely have total renal

failure.

Please, take all of your antibiotics and make sure it is good and

gone. I don't know of any related complications to RA though.
