Guest guest
a, I can still get in and out. It is easier since my surgery for spinal stenosis. My arms and wrists are much, much better. So far my knees have never hurt with RA. Hip, ankles, hands, and wrists, yes. However, I can't clean the tub anymore. I must rely on my daughter and grand-daughter for that. I'm sorry that you can't enjoy that pleasure anymore. I hope it changes in the future for you. Guest guest
Just a thought...my rheumatologist prescribed physical therapy. The physical therapy place I go has a heated saltwater pool. I usually feel much better for hours after getting out of that nice warm salty water. I don't know why, but it definitely helps. Re: [ ]Hot Baths Ive noticed several references to taking hot baths. Guest guest
I wouldn't even attempt to get in and out of our bathtub -- I have to use a long-handled mop to dust it out. And with the way my hands and fingers are, I could never pull on a tight, stretchy bathing suit (that's assuming I would ever agree to wear one in public, lol). I just stare, gape-mouthed, at anybody who suggests swimming as a helpful sport and bathing as a useful therapy ... --- In , " shihtzumom " <shihtzumom1@...> wrote: > > Just a thought...my rheumatologist prescribed physical therapy. Guest guest
Another thumbs up for swimming! Even when I'm at my ouchiest, if I can drag myself to the pool, get changed, and just lay on a kickboard to do a few laps, I feel like a new woman. For anyone too embarrassed to go to a pool here's a true story - I was pregnant with my first son and I headed to the base pool. I had to leave the hospital compound, drive to the shipyard, clear base security, park, waddle to the gym, get changed out of my stylin' Navy maternity uniform, stuff myself into my maternity swim suit . . . as I'm headed to the pool, I catch a glimpse of my rear end (which was pretty big by that stage of pregnancy, believe me). To my horror, I realize that the butt of my suit is THREADBARE and you could totally see my bottom. All I could think was jeez! All this hassle and I'm going to turn around and go home???!! I just said, oh FORGET IT, if you've seen one butt, you've seen them all! I put a towel around my waist, stomped to the pool, and tried to keep my bottom mostly in the water while I went swimming. Since that day, I realized that if I can make myself swim on *that* occasion, I can make myself swim ANY DAY! Re: [ ] Hot Baths Ive noticed several references to taking hot baths. Guest guest
Lynne Thank you very much lynne. I know what to clean my tub out with now. A long handled mop. I use to scrub my tub every time I take a bath. Most people are suppose to do it before, I know. Tell that to eveyone else in the house. I cant even get them to rince it out much less clean it. I cleaned it out for the first time in a couple months. I cried from the pain as I cleaned it. My husband rinses it out so I dont complain to him. We had guest for 2 days. And I had to scrub it after they left. I cant even take a shower if the tub is dirty. A mop. Clora

Guest guest
I have MCTD and I can't get in and out of the tub most of the time. Guest guest
I used to work for a man who was disabled from WW2, he was missing a leg, and in the last few years it was getting increasingly hard for him to bathe. He got a device that he sat on at the edge of the tub and it lowered him into the tub, it was wonderful and paid for by the VA. You can google bath tub lifts and see many brands out there, maybe insurance would help? in PA Re: [ ]Hot Baths I have MCTD and I can't get in and out of the tub most of the time. Guest guest
Hey Melynda. I am sorry to here that you hurt so bad. Did you mean to say a urinary tract infection (UTI)? If so the best part comes after you take the antibiotic for the uti and then you get a raging yeast infection and have to give money to the Diflucan gods to make life more bearable. Guest guest
Hi a - I'm right there with you. I don't have the strength to get in and out of the bathtub either and way too much pain in my shoulders to even think about it. I do have a shower chair, though. Sitting on that and letting the hot water run over me helps some, but then I worry about the water bill (*rolling eyes*). Sometimes I feel like I can't win for losing..........Doreen

Guest guest
I too find great relief in the pool. I can actually do exercizes that are impossible for me without the water. I purchased a swim suit 2 sizes too large with a halter top so I can keep it from falling off. It looks hideous but my hands can not get a traditional suit on. We installed special grab rails to assist in getting in and out of water....The relief I feel far exceeds pain meds.... Mimi <mimi212@...> wrote: Thanks for the giggle, .
