I moderate a number of lists and it's always a tough line to walk- folks like to

see their posts immediately and sometimes I am tied up and cannot get to the

computer - then messages will end up delayed by a day or so. Without moderation,

though, the lists would be bombarded with spam and off topic messages. Folks who

have a problem with moderation are always welcome to go to other lists where

lonely Russian women are desperately seeking their company and Nigerian

millionaires will offer them big bucks to help them out with financial

transactions. On my lists, people seem happy to have me filter those sorts of

messages out for them.

As for sig lines- that's the moderator's choice. I know I do not post often as I

might since sometimes I cannot recall which of the dozens of lists I belong to

permit sig lines and which do not. Apparently, one of my links is considered

commercial because it's a link to a book I wrote... not that I make much money

at all from it! Sometimes this rule is applied in an entirely arbitrary manner

- one list I am on blocks all commercial links except for the moderator's own

and those of a couple of his friends. Whether or not to allow sig lines is the

moderator's call- they are the ones doing the work of keeping the lists on topic

and true to purpose and IMHO they get to call the shots on such issues.

Moderated and okay with it,

~Marie
