Guest guest
thanks for your response, i think i have talked myself into the myomectomy over the aue. i know i wouldnt be happy with a 50% shrinkage of my grapefruit sized fibroid. also something to remember is a person dosent always get a 50 % shrinkage, sometimes its 25 % and sometimes the procedure fails. i just hung up wiht my doc. he tells me with a myomectomy i would need to come in for 3 different i injections of lupron each one being 1 month apart to get the fibroids to shrink somewhat. then i would be able to schedule surgery. the myomectomy would mean a 3 night stay in hospital. he also said he has performed over 100 of these surgeries. my doctor told me today that he removed 17 fibroids from a woman last week and in 1996 he removed the same ones. they all grew back! yuck! laura

Guest guest
: Although your doctor has suggested Lupron, many women have had the surgery done w/o this drug. Before you decide to take it please research the effects it could have on your body. Many women here are opposed to taking Lupron and I respect their opinion. I, however, did take Lupron for three months prior to my myo. It did shrink my fibroids a bit, but not enough for me to have my surgery done laproscopically as I had hoped. For three months I experienced mild hot flashes, night sweats and mood swings. I had my myo on Dec 10 and the effects of Lupron are now disappearing. As far as regrowth, my doctor says there is a 10% chance of regrowth. I don't know how old you are, but the closer you are to menopause the less likely you'll need another myo in your life. Good luck with your choice,

Guest guest
Don't take your mind to, if they are going to grow back. You need relief right now. Maybe he wants you to do the Lupron because the size of your fibroids. My doctor has performed 1,000's of myomectomies. If you want I can give you his telephone number. Guest guest
One of the problems with Lupron, besides all the nasty effects reported on the victims web site, is that Lupron can shrink smaller fibroids to a size where the surgeon can miss them during the myomectomy and of course then you get re-growth.I REALLY think that a very experienced myomectomy surgeon does not need Lupron first Best, Bonnie reneehale@... wrote: > : > Although your doctor has suggested Lupron, many women have had the surgery > done w/o this drug. EVEN THO THERE IS A CHANCE OF REGROWTH AFTER A MYOMECTOMY I KNOW IM CLOSE ENOUGH TO MENOPAUSE THAT IF THEY DO START TO GROW BACK THEY SHOULDNT CAUSE ME ANY PROBLEMS CUZ THEY WILL BEGIN TO SHRINK WHEN MENOPAUSE HITS. O I AM GOING TO RESEARCH LUPRON BEFORE I START THE INJECTIONS. MY DOC WANTS ME TO START TODAY. DO U KNOW IF THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE TO THIS DRUG? ;LAURA

Guest guest
: Yes there are other hormone drugs like Lupron but they do the same thing. If you don't wish to use the drug let your doctor know of your apprehension. I took it and my experience was okay. I was scared to take it at first but I trusted my doc's recommendations -- he also told me I didn't have to take it if I didn't want to. Guest guest
To relieve some of the side effects of Lupron, small doses of estrogen can be given. It is called " add-back " therapy. __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Yes, I was told that too. I was told that the Lupron was not a guarantee. Like I said in previous postings, I tried Lupron for 1 day and I experienced, headaches, nervousness, major PMS symptoms, etc. They had to give me estrogen and take me off the Lupron. It was horrible for me.
